Most of our society is at least a little sleep deprived.
Most of our society is at least a little sleep deprived. We run through life as if our hair is on fire trying to get everything done. Then when we finally get to go to bed, sleep eludes us.
Here are 5 tips to help you get a good night’s sleep.
- Stick to a regular sleep/wake schedule, even on your days off. Your body will become accustomed to the pattern and you’ll be able to fall asleep easier.
- Avoid anything that stimulates you several hours prior to going to bed. Don’t exercise in the late evening, don’t get involved in an emotionally charged debate, cut out caffeinated beverages after lunch time.
- Avoid eating big dinners. Eat a smaller meal at dinner time, then have a light snack before bedtime.
- Don’t rely on over the counter sleep aids, some of which are addictive. If you have trouble sleeping for several nights in a row, see your doctor, it could be an illness that is robbing you of sleep.
- Keep your bedroom cool, dark and quiet. 62-65 degrees is a perfect sleeping temperature. Put dark blinds or shades over windows and use some type of background ‘white’ noise like a fan or humidifier.
