The key component that provides many of the health benefits of green coffee is chlorogenic acid. Chlorogenic acid is an antioxidant that helps neutrilize the effects of free radicals in the body. Free radicals are dangerous because they cause deegeneration of cells that left to their own devices can turn into cancer and other degenerative diseases.

Green coffee has been shown to contain antioxidants at levels twice as high as green tea and grape seed extract, both of which have previously been the champions of the antioxidant arena.

One of the most publicized health benefits of green coffee is it’s ability to aid in weight loss. This is due to the combination of two factors. Again the high level of chlorogenic acid play a large role as it is thought to speed up the metabolism by changing the way the body absorbs glucose. Just drinking a cup of green coffee in the morning is reported to reduce the amount of body fat produced by absorbing sugars in your diet throughout the day.

The second way green coffee is reported to aid in weight loss is due to caffeic acid. This is found in regular coffee as well and is responsible for the energy boost, which also spurs on your metabolism.

Health Benefits of Green Coffee – Diabetes

Green Coffee, along with regular coffee, have been shown to have enourmous health benefits in regards to a reduced rate of diabetes. Because green coffee aids in the use of sugars in the body and also increases the metabolism, it plays a big role in the reduction of the incidence of type 2 diabetes. In fact regular coffee, when consumed at a rate of around 5 cups a day, has been shown to reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes by 38%. It is thought that green coffee will be even more effective in the fight against type 2 diabetes, although the studies have not yet been done to prove this.
