This is necessary to help patient regain their strength and get back to their normal life. Mental rehabilitation is when patient practice with thinking and reading to regain their mental strength back. Occupational therapy is when a therapist guide a patient with normal daily activities to help them regain their normal state of mind.
After a patient is done with medical treatment in a hospital the doctor will send them to rehabs so they can regain their normal physical and mental functions. They will be able to walk and talk better after rehabilitation. Rehabilitation is a part of medical treatment. Once the patient leave the hospital, you can help them continue rehabilitation at home. You can think of it as retraining the person to become better at their daily functions. They might have lost it during their illness.
The more they practice the better they’ll get. Their nerves will get the message and it’ll work better than before. This is the beauty with rehabilitation. It works. For example, a stroke patient will lose their speech or their ability to walk. After they have been in rehab, they regain their speech and their ability to walk if their stroke wasn’t severe. They get to walk around in a walker with a nurse as a practice. They can play video games to get their hands moving. You’ll see stroke patients playing video games, this is to increase their mind and their physical functions. It also stimulates their nerves. They may walk around their house and find where everything is again. They also learn how to do normal things like dressing up, bathing and eating. These simple things will need to be regain again. Usually doctors encourage patients to walk right away after they have been treated in order to regain their strength right away. After that they will be discharge to go home. When your family member go home, you can continue to help them regain their normal functions like walking, bathing, eating, talking, and everything else. After helping them for a couple of months, you’ll see much improvements.
