How to Age Well

 

Age gracefully and pain-free when you turn over 50. You just need self-discipline and determination to reap its healthy rewards. The choices you make today can make you live longer and enjoy life on your retirement years.

 

1. Don’t Smoke. If you’re smoking, stop it now. You will feel the toxic effects of smoking in your body as you grow older. Not only will it affect your physical looks by prematurely aging you but inside your body, hidden, its effects are slowly damaging your healthy cells. In time, as it reins havoc inside, you will begin to feel the pain of different types of age related diseases.

 

This is the reason why there is a warning sign on cigarette packs that says: “Smoking is dangerous to your health.”  The adjective used is dangerous as in treacherous and hazardous. So, take heed.

 

2. Drink Moderately. Occasional drinking or a goblet of red wine after dinner is fine. Studies show that red wine contains anti-oxidants called polyphenols, which are good for the heart.

 

 

3. Stretch and Exercise. Regular stretching and proper exercise will make your heart, bones, and muscles stronger. It improves your functional ability. People who exercise live longer.

 

4. Eat your fruits and vegetables. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables can help fight off age-related ailments like heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, cancer and much more.

 

5. Drink enough water. Water is essential to aid in the proper functions of our body. Stay hydrated by taking sufficient water. Do not wait to get thirsty, because it means you are already slightly dehydrated.

 

6.  Have enough sleep. Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep at night.  Sleeping is the time when our body repairs and grows itself. It also boosts our immune system. You will feel well rested and refreshed when you awaken. 

 

7. Detoxify your heart and mind. Erase anger, bitterness and grudges from your heart and mind. Letting go of these emotional toxins can lead to spiritual and psychological well-being.  A heavy load will be lifted off from your heart and mind and a feeling of lightness within you will ensue.

 

8. Take a break. When you feel stressed out and exhausted, take a break. Refresh your mind and body. Relax by going to a spa, a holiday, or meditate. Practice regular relaxation. Unchecked stress will eventually lead to serious health problem.

 

9.  Be Happy

Feeling happy is good for the health.  It is true that laughter is the best medicine.

When you feel blue, watch a funny movie or read an amusing article.
