How to De-stress Your Skin
The effects of stress may cause a dry, lifeless, inelastic and dull complexion. That’s why de-stressing the skin can help strengthen and soothe your skin for overall good skin health.
Under stress, out-of-control emotions, depression, anxiety and major lifestyle changes, your skin is prone to itching and discomfort. You may also observe redness, and even breakouts leaving unpleasant marks on your complexion. Further, unstable emotions, anger, anxiety and extreme stress has been documented to be linked to cause a direct negative impact on your nails, lips, skin, hair, hands and legs.
A study by the American Journal of Pathology has revealed that stress can encourage an inflammatory response in skin and this, in turn causes chronic skin itching. Specifically, when one suffers extreme stress or becomes stressed, naturally, their body will produce large amount of hormone cortisol that eventually led to an increase oil production in the skin. This explains why oily skin is more readily causes breakouts, blotchiness, redness and other associated skin disorders.
Stress is not only bad for health but also for the skin. When the skin is stressed, the blood vessels beneath the skin are in contraction. This subsequently causes sluggish blood flow, and poor blood circulation. The immediate result of the effect here is that poor oxygen supply to the skin causing dry, lifeless, inelastic and dull complexion. That’s why de-stressing the skin can help strengthen and soothe your skin for good skin health.
Here are some remedies to help de-stress your skin:
Try inhaling deeply when you feel you’re under stress. Be sure to take shallow breaths through your nose, and then try exhaling out through your mouth to relax. By doing this, you’re helping your skin to de-stress.
Try diverting your negative mood by learning to focus on positive side of thing and this will help to reboot your present mood, while building stable emotional and physical resilience during which your stress is skyrocketing.
Go for more natural skin care products, meaning that they’re free from any chemical ingredients. Even though it is said that natural-sourced ingredients do cause allergic reactions, but they’re less apt to as compared to the non-natural sourced ingredients.
Try not to use a variety of skin care products at a time. The fewer products you use, the lesser amount of ingredients they contain, and thus there is a lower risk of an allergic reaction. It’s always advisable to use a handful of skin care products, especially those with minimal or no chemical ingredients and preservatives.
Relaxation technique is also very helpful to de-stress your skin. You can do this relaxation technique either by meditation, or praying. By doing so, you’re helping yourself to cope with stress better. Also, proper relaxation can help relax your skin and facial muscles. To do this, schedule your time from 15 to 30 minutes for a daily peaceful break.
Avoid using toners and commercial cleansers that contain harsh ingredients such as Ammonium Laurenth Sulphate, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Sodium Laureth Sulphate which can dehydrate and irritate many skin types. Even though harsh ingredients help deep clean the oil out of the skin pores, they can interrupt the water balance in the skin causing the skin to become dry. While purchasing a toner, remember to select one that is free of alcohol, which can cleanse and tone the skin gently.
Try looking for soothing ingredients which contain avocado oil, almond oil, aloe vela, shea butter, sunflower oil and chamomile. These ingredients are good for all types of skins including the sensitive skins. Applying soothing ingredients onto the skin may help remedy skin conditions including rashes, redness, dry skin and eczema.
