How to Treat Smoking Addiction?

Hope this small guide will help you overcome your nicotine addiction..

Addiction as you all know is an overwhelming desire. Its more than a habit. Actually you can’t fit the definition of addiction in ‘habit’ as they are two completely different things. Nicotine addiction is the filthiest addiction! Nicotine slowly kills people. Once you smoked a cigarette thinking it was cool! Now you want to get rid of it because you grew too much addicted to it? May be you have stumbled upon the right article if you really want to quit. Read the following to quit smoking or to help others you love to stop smoking totally.

  • Believing in yourself that you can quit smoking is the first step to overcome this nicotine addiction. When you have the faith in yourself, you are halfway successful in your mission. The rest will then be piece of cake:)
  • Set a date to quit smoking totally. This will give you a goal for your mission. You will get motivated each day and  you will yourself do the countdown.
  • Inform your family that you desire to leave smoking. You will get the support of your loved ones due to this. This will add fuel to your mission.
  • Consult a doctor and express your desire that you want to overcome your smoking addiction. The doctor will guide you to the fullest and help you in your mission.
  • You won’t be leaving smoking in a day! The cigarette smoking should lessen day by day, till the date you  set prior in the point #2, when you will have the last puff in your life.
  • Start an exercise schedule like a small garden stroll or a walk in the park or walk your dog. Gradually turn to rigorous exercises(learn some from your doctor!) of about 20-30 minutes. Breathe properly and clear your lungs of any nicotine and tar(yes! its one of the 599 ingredients of a small cigarette!) Once you feel tension free, you tend to get away from cigarettes.
  • Drink lot of water. This will clear your body off harmful toxins and nicotine.
  • Whenever you feel like smoking a cigarette, stuff your mouth with a carrot instead. This will not only keep you away from smoking, but will also satisfy your oral needs.
  • If you know someone else who is trying to quit, make friends with him or her and then share tips and experiences to overcome this smoking addiction.

  3. i never dreamed of trying this , only my two sisters did trying to fit in with the in crowd.I wouldnt hold one it was so horrible.

  4. Thanks for your feedback. Sandie, glad that you never tried smoking. Its the nicotine that makes you feel that you want more. Nicotine and tar smoke can move from your lungs to your brain within 6 seconds. That is why your brain craves for more. I hope your sisters will realise someday that the crowd won’t come to their aid for whom they started puffing.

  7. Nice article! If i may submit a supplemental point: In the journey to quitting there are certain time-related landmarks. The three-day hump is, of course, the first three days after you go clean and this is the hardest period as you will be experiencing the symptoms of withdrawal which can be especially unpleasant for long time smokers. The second major time landmark is the one week mark, this is where one often falls off the wagon due to a sense of “I accomplished something great, maybe i should reward myself…” One small slip and the cycle starts all over again. If you can make it two weeks you can make it all the way. Awesome job Boney.
