Human Digestive System
The Digestive System is a series of hollow organs joined in a long, twisting tube from the mouth to the anus.
Digestive system is the system that is meant for the process of digestion of food. The human digestive system consists of digestive structures and organs through which food passes and some other organs that contribute juices necessary for the digestive process.
The digestive tract begins at the lips and ends at the anus. It consists of the mouth, teeth for grinding the food, and tongue which serves to break the food into a simpler form and mix it with the saliva. The food starts its way down at the throat, the oesophagus, the stomach, the small intestine and the large intestine.
Digestion of food takes up to 18 hours. From biting a banana and its tiny particles passing into the bloodstream takes about this much time. Food stays in stomach for about 3 hours.
