I Hate Doctors

From giving me wrong diagnoses to useless and harmful medicine for something that had nothing to do with what was wrong I have a right to be mad.

It started November of 05′ I had a chronic cough and felt as sick as a dog. I went to the doctors and found I had bronchitis. So treatment began and finished and the bronchitis cleared up but my symptoms didn’t.

The doctor told me people with asthma tend to get really bad after bronchitis so she started me on asthma medication (apteral) and a nasal spray. Weeks went by and no improvement. It got so bad I couldn’t even laugh with out a horrible out burst that would last for hours and came with vomiting. so she told me to go see an pulmonary doctor. He prescribed a different medication and for me to take a lung function test and sleep study check for sleep apnea. Now while all of this was going on I wasn’t sleeping good at all (about 3hours if I was lucky).

I gained at least 20lbs (lack of exercise and means to want to move) and lost 3 jobs because I could get my self up to go to work. I was miserable.

So I went to the lung function exam and was told I didn’t have bad asthma only exercise endued so treatment of asthma stopped there. Results of sleep study were also negative. so again I was left in the dark. The Palmary doctor then suggested to get a cat scan of the throat and nose. That scan showed I had a almost complete blockage in my nasal passages and a divested septum. Surgery would probably have to happen. He referred me to a Ear Nose and Throat doctor and he did another cat scan but of my sinuses.

He said they were blocked but not so bad to have surgery. so a very painful awake procedure was done about a week later. about 2 weeks later I could breath in my nose again but still no relief from this annoying and painful cough. The Ent doctor then told me that I had acid refax ( what a big jump). so treatment went for about 3 weeks and no improvement it actually made my cough worse with chest wall pain and a visit to the Emergency room. So in total 10 months have gone by with out a diagnoses and a clear quote from my ent doctor saying, ” I don’t know how to fix you.”

In between I did see an allergist and she told me that my allergies even if I did have some were very minimal.

However, after my emergency room visit I went back to see my primary physician and he told us to go back but to see a different allergist.. he said this one was the best in his field and he finds stuff other allergist don’t. I figure it was worth a try because I am now so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I went to see this doctor and he in about less then a minute told me I had uncontrolled asthma and sever allergies just by glancing at my chart and making me cough twice. For once my whole entire sick episode I finally think he found it. it almost makes me want to cry for two reasons one.. if I would of seen him in the beginning I wouldn’t have wasted all this time and two because I could finally again live normally. To be completely honest I don’t remember what that is like. When I am better I will run everyday and laugh and God knows what else. But I am so thankful to God that has finally listen to my prayers and the prayers of others and we are finding a way to help me.

  1. Actually, you’re lucky, it’s been less than a year. I went to see doctors, quacks, specialists, homeopaths, pscyhologists, psychiatrists, naturopaths, and every kind of doctor for more than 25 years in order to find out what was wrong with me.

I was treated for allergy forever. But the ‘allergies’ didn’t go away. I started putting on a lot of weight, and couldn’t get rid of it. I was forever tired, didn’t have the energy to do what other people did, was a constant failure at everything I did, despite been beautiful, well adjusted, and intellectually, um, well, gifted and talented.

If I went to a doctor, he said it was in my mind. If I went to a psychologist/psychiatrist, they said it was my early life. We would spend forever talking about my earlier life. I actually knew it had nothing to do with my earlier life, but I was desperate to find out why I couldn’t stay in a job or do anything right.

One day, I walked into a traditional Chinese doctor’s shop. I wanted to buy something and then noticed they treated people and asked if they could heal my post nasal drip. A doctor came out. She took my pulse in some very funny ways. She then looked at my tongue. She said, “you are very tired, get upset quickly, are depressed, and then named a whole lot of physical symptoms that I had moaned about for 25 years to doctors.

I was stunned. “How did you know that?”

    I asked.

It seems Chinese medicine works in a different way to western medicine. “Can you heal me?” I asked.

“Yes,” she replied. “but it will take a long time.”

I thought that as I had the condition for 25 years, another few years wouldn’t matter. “How long?” I asked,

    “3 months,” she said.

The very first treatment I felt better. After three months, I wasn’t tired anymore. About three years later, after moving to America, I was at school and went for some tests. I discovered that I had ADD (not ADHD) and that part of the condition was about always been tired. It also caused social problems.

    Do I believe in doctors?

I haven’t been near a medical doctor for 5 years, and I will never go and see a western doctor again. I only go and see Chinese doctors or research my condition myself.

  2. I cannot agree with you more. I had similar allergy issues that gave me minor problems. The doctor recommended surgery and the results caused me to have permanent sleeping problems, and breathing problems. I was misdiagnosed by every doctor I saw for years until one day I found my problem on the internet. It turns out my problem was caused by the initial surgery the doctor performed on me.

Sadly it is not curable now and I have to live with a chronic illness because of the mistakes of several doctors. Western doctors often prescribe dangerous drugs or surgery before they are sure what the problem is. My doctor’s spent 5 minutes diagnosing a serious problem and would recommend surgery without a second thought. In the end a chinese doctor would have solved my problem would never had ruined my health like a western doctor has.

  3. Funny because it is precisely the doctors that recommend these radical treatments or surgeries for minor problems. There is a reason why certain geographic locations of the country have much higher rates of surgery than others. It is because some hospitals give doctors bonuses for performing a certain type of surgeries.

Tired of whining? I would like to see you spend the rest of your life suffering in pain from someone else’s mistake. Only a doctor get’s a license to kill or maim another person. I agree with you that we should not get treated for minor maladies such as allergies, etc and just live with them. Doctor’s should be put in prison for recommending surgery for these types of issues!

  4. I think doctors are just money grabbing freaks who care about only one thing- money! This is the only profession that can charge you $300 for seeing you and not actually provide any remedy. Reclamation – you can see them again and pay another $300. American doctors are scammers who are just grabbing money and I agree I never go to doctors because I don’t trust them. I know of too many mistakes like treating a child for cancer who didn’t have a cancer (my friend’s). etc… Dentists are the same thing, they charge $1500 for hour and most do a very crappy job.

  5. I had to change my profession after the attacks of 9/11, and became a Radiographer. I used to be a flight engineer for cargo companies, and made a pretty good living. For lack of more information (I thought I had enough), I started as an x-ray tech, now I do MRI. Well, having worked at a different industry, I am in a position to compare other industries in relation to my old one. The title “It’s ALL about the Lexus” couldn’t fit these Doctors better. THE GREAT MAJORITY OF THEM is in just for the cash. The exams they ‘request’ are, for the most part ‘fishing expeditions. I have histories to tell that would make a lot of people wonder who these VOODOOS really are. I think if I am to idolatrize someone, this some would NEVER be a Doctor. They are destroying the health care system in this country. Just my writing this and think of my days at work, makes me sick. Have I mentioned they are obnoxious and hide behind their title?? In other parts of the world, people would be having conversations with some of these idiots in the parking lot.

  6. I agree with money-grabbing freaks description of doctors. I noticed a slight problem with my right eye, went to an ophthamologist, was referred to regular doctor, had a chest x-ray, need to have an echocardiogram, and need blood work. I really don’t think that an echocardiogram will help diagnose a problem in my eye, but what do I know, right? A technician will get money from me having a test I belive is completely unnecessary, as most of them are.

And as a woman, I feel going to any doctor is violating. Please, who in their right mind would want to be a gynecologist? Men have no idea (NO IDEA) how uncomfortable that is for a woman, how awful it makes some of us feel. And now for this echocardiogram, I have to be naked from the waist up. Call me old-fashioned, but I do not like people seeing me and touching me when I’m naked. The technician better be a woman. Maybe I’m sexist, but for medical procedures that require nudity or partial nudity I would be quite fine with male doctors only being allowed to treat male patients and female doctors only being allowed to treat females. If a patient were to request otherwise than fine, but I would be quite happy to only see female doctors for the rest of my life. Or no doctors at all.

  7. I had a nose operation it tramatized me as a child. When I threw up with this mile long thin metal nosescope up my nose I felt sick and thru up and he acted disguested saying “If you say your going too you will”.
When my nose splints were taken out he called me a baby for crying.
I don’t see him anymore but doctors can leave emoutional scars and post tramatic stress whenever something like it happens.
Some Doctors can be so cluseless to that people are human and there’s no excuse for arrogance.
Yes having a male gyno seems insane to me too.
I understand whoever runs this blog about feeling angry towards doctors giving you something you didn’t need that’s double annoying as if the pain of operation isn’t annoying enough.
I swear nose doctors like to say deviated septum there’s never a time I went to a nose doctor without them saying deviated septum.

  8. I have come to hate doctors as well. I have had a chronic cough for 25 years. I have had all sorts of medications and things prescribed for me, and when they cannot figure out what’s wrong, they give me a few unviable options and tell me “that’s all they can do”. I have spent a fortune trying to get relief. I do know that I have bad allergies, and suspect that it’s from post-nasal drip, but they offer me stuff like allergy shots (expect relief in FIVE years or so, MAYBE) and stuff that I’m already taking. They all advertise themselves as caring and will try to get to the root of the problem. But they don’t. They’ve said it’s GERD or that it’s more in my head…..I’m sick of it. SICK AND TIRED and short on money thanks to all these quacks. I cannot imagine how many vacations to Europe I’ve financed for these guys. The only things that helps is hydrocodone cough syrup, and they SO HATE to prescribe that, thanks to the DEA.

I’m not going to the doctor anymore, because they assume that I’m a whiny, insane, drug-seeking woman, rather than how I really am: An over-tired patient who has been dealing with this longer than should be humanely allowed, and is desperate for a solution.

To all the docs in the DFW area, may I just say: I’m not spending another dime on your incompetence. I’d rather go to a witch doctor or hit the black market rather than continue with painful tests or medications that DON’T DO ANYTHING. Face it, Docs….you don’t know nearly as much as your medical school told you that you do. May you all suffer from the hell I’ve had to deal with these many years.

  9. Make sure you go to Rate your Doctor and lower your doctor’s rating, or put a new one in if he doesn’t have one. We have to fight back against the arrogance with information open for all to find. Doctors have been responsible for the deaths of my Grandmother, father and aunt, and have now verbally abused my daughter. There will be a report made. Then I’m going to a Chinese doctor. Good advice! Let’s keep up our spirits and support each other. If we aren’t happy, then they’ve won.

  10. Suffering in pain from someone else’s mistake?
It’s not only doctors that can harm their patient
    and get away with it.
My intense pain was given to me by a physical therapist.
Then doctors I went to after I was injured, verbally abused me.
I don’t know a lot about people elsewhere, but I do think other halthcare systems are – great? of course not –
    but overall better than ours.
Doctors have too much power here, and they have the laws protecting them, so they have even more power.
They are human after all, and subject to the same thoughts and feelings as everyone else, therefore, they should never be given too much power.
Too much power = not enough responsibility.
It can also lead to unfair dealings with people they don’t like versus someone they do, etc.
Medicine is not supposed to be that personal.
