Infectious Diseases That Have Claimed Lives by Millions


Up until the discovery of the antibiotics, pathogens of different diseases did not have to work all that much to claim lives. Infectious diseases that have claimed lives date back thousand of years in human history. Many ancient cultures such as Chinese, Egyptian and Greek used different plants and molds that had antimicrobial properties which they used to treat wound mainly. However as medical knowledge expanded and the use of laboratories became more and more common, scientist were able to observe and test different ideas. This lead to the discovery of the first antibiotic by Alexander Fleming in 1982. Infectious disease outbreaks did not stop there but medical staff were able to keep it them under control and saved a lot of lives through the use of antibiotics.
