Just Like Our Body, Our Hair Needs Its Set of Nutrients to Thrive Healthily

Understanding what our hair needs helps us nurture it beyond just shampooing and conditioning. For our clowning glory to be healthy, you need a regular dose of protein, vitamins A, B, E, and iron. For example, if you experience hair loss, you may need to consume more food with vitamin A. And if you’re a vegetarian, you might want to stock-up on enough legumes to ensure a non-stop supply of protein to your hair.

Our bodies also divide the nutrients we eat, so our hair and scalp receive only a certain amount of these minerals. As an alternative, you can try health supplements like the 21st Century Herbal Hair Plus. It has special herbs to nourish hair from within. Check out our hair pyramid below for more hair food!

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is the key to healthy hair. Good sources of vitamins E include unrefined extra virgin olive oil, avocados, whole grains, and nuts. All of the B vitamins are also important to healthy hair, especially biotin. In fact, animal lacking biotins develop eczema which causes their hair to fall out. The richest source of biotin is yeast.

Vitamin A

Besides being good food for eyes, vitamin A is important for healthy hair too. Eat five or more serving of fruits and vegetables a day to get enough vitamins A. Go for dark green leafy vegetables, as well as yellow and orange vegetables and fruits, such as orange, papaya and carrots. Eggs and milk are good sources of protein; plus, egg yolk is also a good source of vitamin A and milk is rich in calcium. Liver and butter are great to hair too!

Protein

Our hair is made up of 98 percent protein. This means we need to stock up on proteins-rich food. Get the majority of protein from low-fat sources like fish, poultry, and legumes such as soy. Although proteins is basic building block, too much of it can be unhealthy for our hair. It makes the body too acidic and also causes calcium deficiency, which will deplete it from your hair and nails. So make sure to balance it right!

  7. Our hair is just as important as our skin, and I agree with it needing the right nutrients. Thanks for this good information!

  8. I recently found a great chemical free tea tree shampoo – which really helped me grow stronger hair –its from the Made from Earth product line called the Tea & Protein Herbal Shampoo….it actiallu has wheat proteins in it and that’s what makes my hair look so full after I use it.

The directions say for the shampoo to work – you have to leave in your hair for 2 – but I usually do it for about 5, since my hair used to be so thin. But 5 minutes really works for me cause I can see a major difference in how thick my hair is…

Even my husband comments on how my hair felt better – and he never notices anything! I recommend it for all healthy women out there who want better full hair.
