Lodine – Arthritis Treatment
The word arthritis is very common to us especially when we speak of seniors or I should say old people. But the truth is,arthritis can affect people of all ages. There are actually lots of medications for arthritis but there is one drug I could say that is proven to treat arthritis.

Arthritis is classified as one of the rheumatic diseases. The major complaint by individuals who have arthritis is joint pains. The pain from arthritis occurs due to inflammation that occurs around the joint. Joint pain and progressive stiffness without noticeable swelling, chills, or fever during normal activities probably indicates the gradual onset of osteoarthritis.Painful swelling, inflammation, and stiffness in the fingers, arms, legs, and wrists occurring in the same joints on both sides of the body, especially on awakening, may be signs of rheumatoid arthritis.
There are lots of ways and medications for treating arthritis. I’ve researched one medication that is proven to treat arthritis, this is according to the forums of patients suffering from this disease. It is LODINE.
LODINE (Etodolac) is primarily prescribed and used to patients who are suffering from arthritis. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the treatment of acute and chronic pain. It is prescribed for a relief in joint pain, inflammation, swelling and stiffness of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Like any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen, lodine works by reducing levels of hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body thus decreasing pain and tenderness.
DOSAGE
Take lodine exactly as what the doctor tells you. Do not take it in larger amount, like for example,if you missed to take it today,do not take two dosages of lodine the next day just to complete the dosage you missed yesterday.
DRUGS THAT WILL AFFECT LODINE
There are drugs which should not be taken with lodine as this may cause you to bruise or bleed easily. Inform your doctor at once if you are taking any of the following drugs before taking lodine:
– antidepressant such as citalopram (Celexa)
– a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin)
– cyclosporine (Gengraf,Neoral,Sandimmune)
– digoxin (Digitalis,Lanoxin)
– lithium (Eskalith,Lithobid)
– methotrexate (Rheumatrex,Trexall)
– a diuretic (water pills) such as furosemide (Lasix)
– steroids (prednisone and others)
– aspirin such as diclofenac (Cataflam,Voltaren),naproxen (Aleve,Naprosyn)
These are only some of the list and there may be other drugs that can interact with lodine. Tell your doctor about the other medications you are taking, this includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products and drugs prescribed by other doctors.
LODINE SIDE EFFECTS
Get medical help at once when you experienced one of these side effects:
– swelling or rapid weight
– chest pains,weakness,shortness of breath,slurred speech,vision problems
– black,bloody or tarry stools
– coughing up blood or vomit that looks coffee grounds
– nausea,stomach pain,low fever,loss of appetite,dark urine
It is very important to talk to your doctor before taking any medications. Your doctor can also help evaluate your current treatment and may recommend other, more effective ways to help you manage your arthritis.
