Love, Life and Nature: The Basis of Happiness
Some thoughts on the trinity of love life and nature, and what you can do to change your thinking to become a happier person.
I believe that while there is no recipe to being happy in life, there are some ground rules, or basic points that everyone can follow to lead a better, more fulfilling life. In fact, I think the biggest risk factor is love, all the others are quite simple to fulfill.
Let’s see what the average person needs to feel totally happy. They need love (that includes family as well) and job satisfaction. I think these two actually cover everything else, almost anything can be though as a subset of these two.
For me personally job satisfaction is very easy to attain, mainly because I am very independent and I have very flexible views on life. Since I loved blogging I started a blog, and with research and hard work, I am turning it into my main profit source. I also freelanced for a long time making money there, and I even dabbled in web design and so on. While I can’t say I’m rich, I love what I do, and that’s what makes me happy. So I think job satisfaction is not that hard to attain.
For those who feel they can not leave their job, I suggest finding something in it they like. Of course I too have been in jobs I hated. In this case I tried to make the most of it by introducing a new filing system I worked on, Creating new ways to contact customers. Innovation and free thought is something that can bring happiness to all situations, even if others don’t realize what you’ve done, well, you’ve made life easier for yourself in the end.
Love is the hardest of all to achieve for most people and this depends on so many factors it’s hard to give any guidelines at all. I think understanding and empathy are the two key factors both in keeping love and in finding new love. People blessed with a loving family are much better off. My father died when I was 16 and my Mother has never sought after anyone else. This is because her three sons and other family members give her all the love she ever needs. Remember that love pops up in the most inexplicable places, and don’t just think girlfriend boyfriend here. You can find love in many other ways, just keep an open mind.
So where does nature tie into all this? I am a firm believer that nature, and the love of nature helps you in your mental well being. For example, taking in a wounded kitten and raising it will help you because the cat will give you a lot of love, and you will be happy that you helped out nature in a small way. While this seems laughable, animals have a proven positive effect on the human mind. I also love to buy bio stuff in the supermarket. This keeps me more healthy, I know I am supporting people who work very hard to produce these goods, and there’s usually a good chance that these people are your countrymen, since fresh bio foods can’t be imported from thousands of miles away.
Overall, the biggest lesson is to keep an open mind and an open heart. Seemingly irrelevant things can turn out to help you in your mental well being, which is probably even more important than the physical one. If all else fails look to nature for some help, find better ways of doing your job and try and understand your loved ones, I’m sure the return on your investment will be large.
