Making the Most of Bedtime
Do you have an overactive mind when you’re trying to fall asleep at night? Here’s what I find helpful.
- Use your bedroom as a sleeping (and lovemaking) room only. Don’t use your bed as an office, a place to snack or from where you watch television. Your brain needs to associate bed with sleeping.
- Choose a cool colour for your room such as blue, green or a soft mellow yellow. Warm colours like red or purple are too stimulating to the eye.
- Don’t go to bed when you’re alert or you’ll only toss and turn trying to get to sleep
- Create a restful mood in your bedroom by burning a calming, pure essential oil like lavender in a special burner.
- Play soft, classical, mellow music in the background concentrating on the sound patterns- particularly the long drowsy ones
- Avoid confrontation with your mate or family members before bedtime. Put it aside for the next day.
- Calm yourself down by taking a hot bath with soothing fragrance bubble bath or bath salts
