Marijuana vs. Cigarettes

"Smokers never become old, because they die younger." Ever thought about the consequences of smoking cigarettes versus the consequences of smoking marijuana?

Lung cancer, emphysema, and bronchitis are just a few of the diseases caused by smoking. Let me stress that they are really just a few of them. People who smoke are also more likely to face respiratory infections, they may also suffer from some diseases such as heart disease, cancer, lung disease, respiratory problems, cardiovascular diseases and plenty of other problems related to kidneys, liver and pancreas. The amount of cancers that are linked to cigarette smoking is tremendous. Cancers of the mouth, throat, lungs and gullet are often found in smokers.

“Between 1964 and 2004, cigarette smoking caused an estimated 12 million deaths, including 4.1 million deaths from cancer, 5.5 million deaths from cardiovascular diseases, 1.1 million deaths from respiratory diseases, and 94,000 infant deaths related to mothers smoking during pregnancy(National).”

Around 5.4 million deaths a year are caused by tobacco. Cigarettes have been linked to many deaths and caused harm to smoker’s insides. It blackens your lungs, and it causes people to die young, that is a fact. I do not condone people who smoke either marijuana nor cigarettes, but why is something so unhealthy on the market though? People can use marijuana for medical purposes and in certain states it is legal for just that particular reason.

I watched this interesting video on youtube, it’s called “RUN FROM THE CURE – The Rick Simpson Story”, this guy talks about how cannabis has cured stuff such as melanoma skin cancer, lung cancer, diabetes, infections, glaucoma, arthritis, chronic pain, burns, ulcers, and asthma. If this is true, why is something that’s curing cancer illegal and something that causes it legal?

Here is some of the description of the video -

“After a serious head injury in 1997, Rick Simpson sought relief from his medical condition through the use of medicinal hemp oil. When Rick discovered that the hemp oil (with its high concentration of T.H.C.) cured cancers and other illnesses, he tried to share it with as many people as he could free of charge – curing and controlling literally hundreds of people’s illnesses”.

Let me know what your opinion is, and what you think about the Rick Simpson story.

  1. Very interesting article, thanks for sharing.

  2. The government makes money off of cancer. If cancer wasn’t around many doctors would be out of work. Nice article.

  3. Well i have heard it helps but dont really know, if this is the case and it does then i guess the last comment is spot on

  5. Interesting article! Well researched and well written. I cannot really say at this point what my feeling toward smoking marijuana truely is as I feel it should be researched more yet before any conclusive decisions on its use is decided.

As for smoking, well it was the government that got people smoking in the first place as they saw in advance the taxes they could reap from it to line their own pockets.

    That’s just my own .

  6. Interesting and moving stories in the video, but no scientific evidence or even documentation. Not that I am saying hemp oil is ineffective or even dangerous, but I’d like something to back up the claims other than someone said so. Then again, if I had tried everything else with no results, I’d be willing to give it a shot. In the end, you’ve written a good article and opened an avenue for further conversation and debate. Good job.

  7. I am still not believing in the use of cannabis.I think it will have a bad effect on our health.

  8. Some of the treatments for cannabis was simply rubbing the oil on your skin, no health hazard there. Alternatively, there aren’t many health hazards when it comes to inhaling it either.

  9. i never tried both. Nice article thanks for letting me know the different

  10. Medical society should ban cigarettes.

  11. nice share

  12. I have read that cannabis has many health benefits. Cigarettes on the other hand should just be taxed even more imo

  13. Good.

  14. really good information you are sharing.

  15. I agree with Julie. But this is an interesting share.

  16. Interesting share.

  17. Interesting information

  18. I think that marijuana should be legalised. We declassified in the UK to a class C drug… but now they’re thinking of putting it back up to B… there is no moving forward it seems! Great share.

  19. I don’t think marijuana cures any disease, I know it helps make chronic diseases easier to bear and I also know it will kill any ambition. The stuff keeps you in a fantasy world. You can’t apply yourself to a good future. It’s a bad thing and so is cigarette smoking and drinking alcohol. In spite of that, I think it should be legal. too much time is wasted on policing the use of it, and since tobacco and alcohol is legal, why not marijuana?

  20. Interesting subject.

  21. This really makes us wonder a lot of things. The government should really stop being selfish and ban cigarettes & if hemp oil really cures cancer this should be looked into more and be used to stop people from dying by it. Good article .

  22. You have raised a controversial issue here. I think both cigarettes and marijuana should be banned. Great article.

  23. Interesting and Informative..

  24. If Marijuana were legalized the government could tax it to the sky and people would still by it.
The medicinal effects you mention are very promising if true, but you neglected to mention that it is the by products of the burning process that cause illness, not nicotine. Nicotine just keeps the consumer coming back, but the 120 or so noxious gasses produced are produced no matter what you burn and smoke.
    Good thought provoking article.

  25. Great share and very interesting facts about smoking.
