Metabolism: Raise It Up

An informative article describing the importance of metabolism, and how raising metabolic level can benefit the health and weight management process.

Eating is a requirement in the process of metabolic function. In order to maintain a healthy, functioning metabolism, a person must eat to raise metabolism and eat to maintain the high level of operation.

A person who has consumed more food energy than he or she has burned in caloric intake will keep the excess calories in body fat. To reduce body fat, a person needs to expend more energy than he or she takes in as food. For every 3500 calories eaten in excess, a pound of body fat is stored. Therefore, metabolism is the key factor in maintaining body weight as well as a requirement in successful weight loss.

In order for a person to establish an approximate food or energy intake, he or she must eat a set number of calories per day. For example, if a person desires to eat 2000 calories a day and not gain weight, then he or she needs to set the metabolism level for 2000 calories a day. This is done by eating 2000 calories a day on a steady schedule for a given period of time. The time period will vary per individual depending on body structure and body weight. Some people may reach the desired calorie level in two-four weeks while others may take as long as one to two months. Once the metabolism is set for the 2000 calorie per day diet, the individual can maintain a set body weight with proper nutrition and exercise or begin to loose weight by lowering the calorie intake for a given period of time while exercising and following a healthy weight management plan. Gary Haven, Founder and CEO of Curves International Inc. has developed a very successful weight management program based on metabolism level, health and nutrition requirements and specific exercise principles. He has published several very informative and educational books on the subject of exercise and fitness, metabolism, proper nutrition and health.

Because the average person does not exercise on a regular basis and most likely does not follow a health management plan inclusive of nutritional supplements and healthy eating practices, it is important to factor metabolism into the equation. By raising metabolism levels, exercising regularly and eating healthier, a person can engage in better health practices and a healthier life style.
