Prostate Problems

Various people I know or have heard of have had prostate problems. It gets worse as peole get older.

More than half of men over the age of 50 have significant prostate enlargement. The effects of this are often noticed when trying to urinate. The prostate provides a liquid medium for the sperm and is worth looking after as various unwanted problems such as impediment of urine flow, bacterial infection and cancer can occur if it is not in good shape.

One might suspect prostate problems if any of the following occur:

A sensation that the bladder is not empty after urinating.

Wanting to urinate again soon after having urinated.

Starting and stopping while urinating.

Having a weak urinary stream.

Straining and waiting before being able to urinate.

Some suggested supplements that can help (but consult with a doctor to see whether there are any problems with taking them) are:

 Zinc and copper taken together

Vitamin E

Saw palmetto

Pygeum

Other things to do are:

 Take multivitamin and mineral supplements.

Eat a high-fibre and low-fat diet (vegetarianism can be a good choice)

Eat less red meat

Eat salads and drink fresh vegetable and fruit juices.

In an article about masturbation and prostate cancer risk we read:  Dimitropoulou suggests that in older men, masturbation itself may actually be helpful, ridding the prostate gland of fluids that may contain cancer-causing substances (Webmd).
