Red Wine Helps Reduce Cholesterol

Doctors University Hospital Linkoping say that moderate alcohol consumption is useful for the organism…

They conducted a study in which the group of subjects within three months of each day was given wine. Upon expiration or termination of the experiment doctors recorded significantly lower cholesterol in the blood, while in the liver, no changes were observed.

The fact that red wine may be beneficial to health, has been known for a long time. Scientists wanted to find out exactly what amount of alcohol a favorable effect on cholesterol levels. At the beginning of the experiment the research participants draw lots which of them will remain in the group of “abstainers” and who will drink every day: two glasses of wine for men and one – for women.

The experimental results have surprised doctors: it seems that people took alcohol on a daily basis, not only did not show any adverse changes in the liver, and blood cholesterol level was 15% lower than that of “temperance.”

Head of Research, Professor Fredrik Nyström notes that such a serious reduction of cholesterol in the blood can only be achieved with medication. Other methods, such as exercising or diet, are not as effective.

Despite the fact that the experiment has not yet been published in a scientific journal and commented upon by other scientists, Nyström fully confident that now we can confidently recommend that people consume red wine in moderation, if they do not have a genetic predisposition to alcoholism.
