Sunlight: A Poison vs. Good Medicine

Sunlight plays an important role in our daily life, but do you really understand how sunlight benefits and how harmful it is?

It is said that the prolonged exposure under sunlight will causes skin cancer. Nevertheless the more sunlight, the lower the cancer rate is. And some scientists found out that sunlight can lower the level of cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar.

Some places are always under strong sunlight, but the people there are healthier and more long-living. They are very old, but without getting skin cancer. Why? Is there something wrong with their genetics? Are they special?

In fact, skin cancer is mainly caused by prolonged and inappropriate sun exposure. Urban citizens do not get enough sun exposure. They always stay at indoors, once they expose under strong sunlight inappropriately, they will be suffered! First, unlike the people live in rural areas, people there has been adapted the sunlight when they are young. Moreover, the urban citizens do not get enough protection. And if you don’t get enough protection, you may get a sun burn. If you do not handle it properly, skin cancer may likely to occur.

On the contrary, enough sunlight is good for our health. We need sunlight, because we need Vitamin D, which is absent from vegetables. Why we need Vitamin D? It is because Vitamin D is essential to the absorption of calcium, which helps the formation of bones and teeth. Elderly can prevent from osteoporosis, while children and teenagers can prevent from rickets.

As we can see, sunlight is essential to us. But how can you make good use of sunlight? First, you should limit the time under sun exposure. Second, before you do that wear sunglasses and apply some sunlight lotion on every part of your body. Third, choose places which is not to bright, or you may get sun burn easily. Last, once you feel sick after dwelling under sunlight, you should see a doctor. And apply medicines regularly to prevent the problem becoming severe!
