Surviving Knee Surgery
Step by step guide to overcoming knee surgery.
Step 1:
Think positive, think not what you can lose, but what you stand to gain. A potential career lost is nothing compared to freedom gained.
Step 2:
If your surgery is very major (knee replacement, patella stabilisation) have a diet plan. A slight increase in protein intake (lean meat, not fatty), vitamin C (re-builds muscles) and a decrease in fatty/sugary foods will honestly improve your recovery time.
Step 3:
Do your physiotherapy/physicaltherapy exercises. These may seem tedious and laborious, but if done properly will reduce your overall recovery time.
Step 4:
When safe to, walk. Walk reduces your weight, thus the strain on your knees. It is gentle (over flat ground) and it helps build up the muscles (quads, hamstrings, tibial tuberosity)
The proof?
I followed this regime, I am 17 and have had three major operations due to sport. Recovered in less than half the time……
P.S. Do follow your doctor’s advice, they are trained and they know what is best….
