The Effect of Booze on the Body

Short essay on the effects to your body of drinking. Everyone should be aware and concerned about how one drink can change your life completely.

Once someone even has one drink, there BAC level rises and driving impairment begins. Deaths from alcohol related crashes happen every day, and there were reports of about 2,200 deaths of these crashes among young adults in 1997. The lives of these two young women were changed after they had a few drinks and stepped into their cars.

Kimberly Bowers had a few drinks after partying when she decided she could still drive afterwards just because she didn’t have a drink for over an hour. She didn’t notice anything on the street until her windshield shattered and a bicyclist was lain on the ground dead. She was found legally intoxicated by the police and she was sentenced to a year in prison due to being guilty of involuntary manslaughter. She now speaks to schools and youth groups about her drinking and driving experience and claims that no one should get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol because she knows some of the worst results of it.

Although the story of Maureen varies from death or prison, she now knows that the two could very well have resulted from her alcoholism. She started to be an alcoholic around the age of 16 and she would almost constantly be intoxicated by alcohol or another drug while she was driving. After avoiding many arrests and only being in one accident, which was declared to have been no ones fault, she was caught drinking and driving and she was sent to a halfway home. She no longer drinks, but she worries for all the other teens drinking and driving now because she knows about the impairment effects that it can have on you. She feels as though she could have prevented the one collision if her reflexes hadn’t been slower that normal.

Generally, it is best for you to not have had any drinks before driving, because only one can cause and start impairment. These two women now know that if anyone needs to get somewhere even though they’ve had a couple drinks, they should find another way than driving themselves. Their lives have changed for the worst and everyone needs to learn from their experiences.
