The Effects of Tobacco
A short list of short term and long term effects of tobacco.
Description: Crushed dried leaves from the tobacco plant. 2nd popular drug. Nicotine in tobacco is largely responsible for its addictive nature and its short term effects.
Short-Term Effects
- Pulse and blood pressure-up
- Skin will become cooler
- Acid in stomach-up
- Urine production-down
- Appetite-down
- Less capable of vigorous activity
Long Term Effects
- Blood vessels in the heart and lungs will narrow and darken
- Shortness of breath
- More likely to get infections in lungs (pneumonia)
- May develop chronic bronchitis of the mouth, throat, lungs, larynx, esophagus, bladder, kidneys, pancreas.
