As a former Nurse, to know how to wash the hands properly can save your life and those you love. Many diseases such as the Swine Flu, will be transmitted no matter what we do as there is no immunity at this time from it. Disposable gloves and masks help when in public. Proper knowledge is a good thing. We used to say if in doubt, find out. Also, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Place some triple antibiotic salve just inside the nasal cavity, but not too much as breathing in oils cause pneumonia. A virus or bacteria is like an invisible mustard. When an infected person touches an object, the germs are transferred to that object. You know how hard it is to get mustard off of things. So proper hand washing is very important. Cold temperatures and the Sun also kill germs. This is one reason why recovery rooms in hospitals are so cold. After using a washing machine, the dryer is what kills the germs.

Bacteria and viruses are spread by touch, kissing, sexual contact, dirty fingernails, sneezing and coughing. Some are spread even by the air as in Tuberculosis. Stay at home is you have fever over 101 and see a doctor and ask for blood work.

To wash your hands properly, take off jewelry as it contains much bacteria. Turn on the facet with warm, not hot, running water. Use the paper dispenser  to dispense about one foot of paper. Pick up a bar of soap. Most soaps are made of the same ingredients. Wet the hands and rubbing them together, work up a good lather from the wrists down. Say the A B C s or wash for 2 to 3 minutes. Be sure to keep fingernails short as bacteria accumulates there. Rinse well with clean water after putting the soap back. If you used dispensed soap, be sure there is soap in it. Use part of the dispensed paper to turn off the facet and the rest to dry your hands and dispense more paper. Wet surfaces also transfer bacteria. Toliet paper in public restrooms transfer many diseases also.
