Driscoll Children’s Hospital

This is the best hospital in the world if you have children.

On December 12, 2008, my son broke his arm at school.  It was quite bad.  Another kid had ran into him and jammed his elbow against a wall causing a break just above the wrist.  I took him to our local hospital but they wouldn’t do anything for him except try to set it without any pain medication.  I told them to just stop and I would take him to Driscoll Childrens Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.  At the Childrens Center we saw Dr. Temperlake who suggested my son be put under anesthesia to set the broken bone.  He also informed me that if he could not set it that Dr. Comstock may need to put a pin in to correct the break.  The entire hospital staff was very caring and sympathetic.  They made sure he was comfortable at all times and thoroughly explained everything they were going to do before they did it.

My son is only 13 and had never broken a bone before so he was a little nervous, but their caring attitude put him right at ease.  They ended up putting the pin in and then a temporary cast over it to protect it.  When we went back for the check-up they were very cautious to x-ray his arm to be sure it was ready for the pin to come out.  It was not.  They put another cast on and when we went back they took that one off and gave him a brace to wear for three weeks.  The best thing about this hospital was that we received all of this wonderful treatment even though they were aware of the fact that we did not have any insurance.  We were treated great by all staff members and I am very grateful to them.  If you are in South Texas and you ever need emergency medical treatment for you child, no matter their age, be sure to take them to Driscoll Childrens Hospital in Corpus Christi on Alameda Drive.
