How to Choose the Right Doctor

Three steps to choosing the right doctor.

Finding the right doctor is always a difficult thing to do, especially if you have been diagnosed with a series disease. I am speaking from my own personal experience and I mean no offense to any health care professional. However I have found that half of the physicians don’t even care about their patients.

Many doctors have actually refused to see me because my illness is too difficult to treat. In my opinion these physicians are not only incompetent but they would rather take only the patients that are easy to treat because they are too lazy to do any type of research on the diseases they didn’t study in college. In this day in age a lot of doctors only care about the $160 that they get just for you walking into their office.

However knowing this doesn’t stop the fact that we still need to go to the doctor at least once in a while. The tried and true test I have figured out for finding, not only a competent but also a caring physician is actually quite simple. Here are the steps in finding the right doctor.

  1. When you first call to make an appointment pay attention to the receptionists not only tone of voice but also try to be nice and ask how her day is going. If she is short with you, rude, or in any way makes you feel as if she is in a bad mood, then you should probably reconsider your choice of doctors. One thing to remember is that if the doctor is good and caring than his/her staff will be also. (If the boss is good than all the employees are normally happy.)
  2. Never judge the doctor by how long/short the wait-time is to get in to see them. The waiting room is the perfect opportunity do a little investigating about your doctor. While you are sitting you should asked the other patients what they think about the doctor, it’s not hard to strike up a conversation if you start out by telling them it’s your first time to see that particular doctor. Most patients have an opinion on the care their doctor is giving them, and most will be willing to tell you what they think, good or bad.
  3. When you finally meet the doctor if he doesn’t ask you questions and listen as you tell him what’s wrong with you then he/she probably isn’t the doctor for you.

The most important thing you need, in order to find the right doctor for you, is trust yourself. If you feel for any reason that their not the right one for you, then their not!
