The FDA: Does It Really Care About Our Health?

As is my custom, when I awaken daily
I check out the headlines on Yahoo Insider,
(you know that little screen that pops up along with yahoo messenger when you log in)
This morning among the headlines was this
“FDA Officials:Cold meds not for kids”

According to the article,
some commonly used and well known cold relievers,
antihistamines and decongestants may not be effective or safe for young children

So here is my question, why are they even on the market?
Isn’t it the FDA’s job to evaluate risks and side affects before approving a product?
Why do they bother approving things only to recall them later
or debunk their effectiveness as a treatment at a later time?

Here is my belief,
that the FDA is out to help drug companies sell more drugs, pure and simple.
They rush these drugs through tests, record flawed or psuedo-results
Get them on the market and then say later when complications arise “oh we didn’t know it wasn’t safe” Despite the fact it is there job to check for flaws and side affects before hand.
