Remedy 4 recommended honey for its antioxidants and many of the comments also praised honey as a time-honored cold remedy. While its texture may be soothing to a tickly throat, Bernstein published a clinical test in 1977 in AJCN, vol. 30, pg. 613, that shows that anything that makes our bodies produce insulin, including honey, will lower immune response for 30-60 minutes. Apparently, the insulin competes for space on the white blood cells called lymphocytes that should attack viruses, thereby keeping them from multiplying (mitosis), which they have to do to make us all better!

Go easy on the yogurt. Dairy increases mucus production, and that's the last thing need during a bad cold.
