How to Treat Wounds

A quick way to learn how to treat and clean out wounds the correct way.

Try to stay calm. If you start freaking out the other person will freak out because they’ll assume it’s worse then it actually is.

Add pressure to the wound using a piece of fabric. Towel, Article of clothing, etc… If the blood comes through the clothing then you need to add more pressure on the wound. This will hurt the injured person more then it would if you left it alone but stopping the bleeding is critical.

Clean out the wound by running clean water through it. A bottle of water or filtered tap water. Find something soft that you can tie around the wound. Try to avoid using cotton or wool. These fabrics can fall apart to easily and will get stuck in the wound.

If the blood restarts while your bandaging it up just apply pressure again till it stops. If the blood is bright red this means an artery has been hit and you should call 911 so someone with medical training can come.

Once or twice a day replace the bandage and clean out the wound with peroxide to kill any germs that might of gotten in it. This will prevent the wound from becoming infected and will promote healing.

If a wound won’t stop bleeding it may be to large to stop the bleeding yourself and you may need to get stitches. This is not a replacement to seeing a doctor for a bad cut but more of temporary relief to the bleeding. If you get a really deep cut you should go to the doctor if your limb starts to go numb. This could be a sign of not enough blood getting through so you should seek medical attention. Taking care of a wound is simple and I recommend keeping a first aid kit in your house.
