Antibiotics, are They Cures or Silent Killers?

Ever since Louis Pasteur, whenever we got an earache as a child, strep throat, or other infection, we were usually given an antibiotic to make us better. As an adult, we learn that given all the benefits of this cure-all, there are some negative aspects of using antibiotics. Even now, as I have always been taught that Omega oils lubricate our inner mechanics, probiotics protect them from the deadly invaders.

What About Probiotics?

Replacing probiotics is one of the easiest, cheapest, most beneficial things we can do to increase the positive state of our health. And just as important, prebiotics greatly help boost the production and bioavailabilty of probiotics. A good example of a food suppplying probiotics is yogurt. Other fermented dairy products can be used, such as cottage cheese, but yogurt is much more effective. However, look closely at the label to determine if that yogurt is effective. To offer benefit, the yogurt must contain active cultures, Most yogurt containers indicate whether active cultures are present. It is important to keep foods containing “live” Probiotic cultures refrigerated, since heat will destroy the cultures.

Are Antibiotics Truly Cure-Alls?

It is well established in the medical field that at least 70% of our immune system benefits come from the “good” bacteria, called flora, in the gut and bowel produced by our body’s naturally occurring probiotics. The medical community points out that people with digestive and bowel problems often lack enough of the good bacteria we need to fight off some of the ravages of food and other types of allergies as well as food intolerances, inherited or as rogue genes, that affect the digestive area, and “bad” bacteria like ecoli, etc.

Taking strong antibiotic medicines such as penicillin or its derivatives, stress, illness and disease, food allergies and/or intolerances, wounds and surgery can all deplete our probiotic count. Children in particular on antibiotic drugs need their prebiotics and probiotics replaced throughout the course of their medication or illness. It has also been well established by many top medical specialists that if all of our beneficial bacteria were to be destroyed, our bodies could be prone to severe disease, some even fatal.

A daily yogurt with live cultures eaten with fresh fruit, and whole grain cereals and breads is an inexpensive answer to help keep children on a healthy track while being medicated. Replacing probiotics is one of the easiest, cheapest, most beneficial things we can do to increase the positive state of our health. And just as important, prebiotics greatly help boost the production and bioavailabilty of probiotics.

Incorporating foods containing Probiotics as often as possible in your daily menu takes very little extra time when grocery shopping and meal planning. Keep a list in your purse and also on the refrigerator door so that you are constantly thinking of what you can do on a regular basis to increase your health awareness. Be sure to get enough natural vitamin C in fruits and vegetables to aid the prebiotics and probiotics as they do their job. Fast food restaurants, in most cases should be avoided if one wants to maintain healthy levels of Probiotics.

The Question, Are Probiotics Safe?

It is well agreed by the medical community that Probiotics are safe, simply because they are a naturally occurring bacteria that is already a necessary part of the normal digestive system. It is also well known that the purpose of the Probiotic bacterial cultures, as found in most yogurt is to assist the body’s naturally occurring gut flora to reestablish themselves.

These Probiotic foods are in many cases recommended by doctors and even more frequently by some top nutritionists, usually following the use of antibiotics, or for the treatment of Candida, commonly known as yeast infection. There are many in the medical field of research that assure us that Probiotics strengthens the immune system.

Prebiotics Are Also Very Important

In order to promote gut flora to overpower disease-causing bacteria from invading your body, eating foods high in prebiotics is essential. Foods containing prebiotics are very common and should have very little problem reaching your dinner table. Increasing gut flora is very important and is very simple to do.

Some good food sources of Prebiotics are:

Asparagus, Banana, Unrefined oats, Garlic, Onions, Green beans, Leeks, Tomato, Artichoke, Raisins, Whole grains and generally high fiber content foods.

Garlic and onions are also detoxifying foods, helping to rid the body of heavy metals which are usually ingested from some contaminated fish. They are also very beneficial for controlling many body functions, such as blood pressure and high levels of LDL cholesterol, to name a few. Could some of these guidelines change the level of our global health?
