Contact lenses have come a long way from their humble start in 1800. There is an amazing fact that most people don’t know, Leonardo Da Vinci, first gave the idea of contact lenses. Contact lenses are optical medical devices and since 1879, they have catered the demanding need of customers.                                      They have same corrective purpose, as regular spectacles lenses, but are much smaller, almost invisible and if you are fashion savvy then there is a huge collection of colors to select from.

Face the facts

Wearing glasses day and night, not only darken your eye circle and put a horrible dent on your nose bridge and above all, one could never possibly find a decent pair of glasses, which suits their face and then there is huge disappointment, when they are out of fashion. Contact lenses are available for myopia, hyper metropia, Astigmatism and presbyopia. One can use Corrective and therapeutic lenses, for myopia and hypermetropia, they are soft in nature and easy to use and maintain. Then there are tinted lenses for fashion savvy people, which changes appearance of your eyes. These are very popular among entrepreneurs and professionals.

About LASIK

The idea of permanent solution must have crossed your mind more the once. LASIK surgery to correct your vision is a very effective procedure and most of the patients are relieved from their eye impairment. However, like all surgical procedure, LASIK do have complications, disadvantages and limitations, and does not provide complete solution.

Experiencing undesired results, in some cases patients may not achieve quality vision in first surgery and need an enhancement surgery, simply put, a second surgery and this enhancement cannot be performed for many months after your initial surgery and for prevention, and glasses are must through out this period. After surgery you may need glasses or contact lenses to achieve best vision.

Results of surgery may not be permanent. Common set back, for patients with hyper metropia or farsightedness. People with reading glasses are more prone to having changes in their vision after LASIK surgery. Experience Visual problems such as, double vision, hazy vision and fluctuating vision during the day and from day to day, increased sensitivity to light, glare, shadows.

Then there are Dry eyes symptoms, such as, Burning and redness in eyes and even decreased vision, immediately after surgery. This condition is occasionally permanent and may require medication to improve tear production, which temporarily close off the drainage system for tears.

Rarely, LASIK may result in worse vision; unfortunately, that can never be corrected, neither with glasses, nor with contact lenses. This complication could arise from equipment malfunction, infection, scarring, or extreme changes in corneal shape post operatively.

Advantage of Contact lenses

Big advantage of wearing contact lenses is that, there are no complications. Only excessive wear of contact lenses, especially overnight wear, is associated with one and only, safety concerns. Latest Hydrogen silicone lenses are suitable for extended or even overnight wear. Nothing is left to chance or overlooked. Your eyes need special treatment.

  1. Thorough and informative. Thanks

  2. Many people wear contacts and love them but I found them very uncomfortable. I think I will stick with my glasses. Very informative article.

  3. Very informative article

  4. I wear glasses and also contact lenses. You are right about wearing glasses. They do leave mark under my eyes but wearing contact lenses everyday also makes my very dry. Anyway good information.

  5. I’m a contact lens wearer and I find them so much better than glasses although they can get a bit uncomfortable some times, like Ruby said but I am considering LASIK in the future (once I’m past 18/19 years of age). Good article – a good guide for any person confused about lenses or lasik.
