Know Your Medicine

Somewhere around 2004 I started becoming interested in more natural medicines as apposed to prescriptions. For me it is one of the ways I have tried to become more self-sufficient.  Man those doctors had me on a lot of stuff!  The dentist gave me lortabs, the gynecologist gave me vicodin, the family doctor gave me darvocet, vicodin, ambien, and flexeril.  I don’t even want to get into what the shrink had me on.  And I didn’t even mention the allergy meds and the birth control shots and the other female problem shots I took.  Oh man was I a mess.  When I decided to give it all up it was rough.  Not only had those 18 or so months made me an addict, I still had several of the medical problems that caused the pills to be given in the first place.  I spent countless hours on the internet looking up all the individual problems and started really researching herbs. ~ On this one has found dangerous drug interactions for a friend that to solve….I would say maybe half her symptoms……there were a couple of her medications that were actually causing some of her ills.  When she took the print out to her doctor he immediately took her off of several and her conditions improved a bit.

I found a very dangerous interaction between a pharmaceutical I was taking and an herb I was researching to replace it.  In this one if the two were taken with in 24 hours of each other there was a chance of permanent coma or death.  That was 5 years ago and I have only found 2 other sites that pointed this chance out.
