Pethidine, Pain Reliever in Child Delivery

This drug is given fairly early during the first stage of labor, especially if you are anxious or finding it hard to relax. Pethidine will probably be given by injection in your buttocks or thighs. It takes about 20 minutes to work , and its effect last for two to three hours.

The pethidine affects woman differently. Some feel calm, relaxed, and a bit sleepy, but still aware of whats going on, others complain of being out of control and feeling drunk. You may be sick and probably wont feel like moving around very much. If pethidine is given too close to the birth, it can slow down his breathing and make him sleepy. However , slow breathing can be easily corrected after the delivery, and sleepiness will soon wear off.
