The Difference Between Mri and Ct Scan

The MRI and CT scan  have revolutionized the practice of medicine allowing doctors to have a detailed view into the inside of the human body.Although both machines may look similar from the outside, they have totally different mechanisms and different uses.

What is the difference between MRI and CT scan?

The CT Scan

- It is a highly complicated X-ray device so it depends on the ionizing radiation in taking images.

- It takes a shorter time to take the required images.

- It is less expensive (except for the new multi-slice CT scan).

- Usually, it is less superior than MRI in most cases (except for some cases) but it is widely used because it is less time consuming and more cost effective.

The MRI scan

- It works through the generation of magnetic field and send radio waves through the body then measure the cells response to it.

- It is safe as there is no use of ionizing radiations.

- It takes a longer time per patient and it is more expensive.

- It is superior than CT scan especially when it comes to brain or spinal cord imaging.
