       Today, yogasanas are not only performed in India by professionals, but are practiced by health care-takers throughout the entire world. Its benefits are now been initiated by scientific researches. Truly, yoga is a hand of blessing on the incurable heads of the world.

      Yogic exercises are normally done to tone the body and the nervous system. Yogic exercises come under Hath Yoga, one of the eight limbs of Ashtang Yoga as described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Hath yogis believe that body toning is the result of nerve stretching, a belief with a scientific basis. Recently, scientists have discovered that cells in the human body change depending on how they are stretched. They have shown that if you pull a stem cell in one way, it starts developing into a brain cell; stretch it in other ways, and it starts developing into a muscle or a bone cell. The most far reaching effect of this stretching is for cancer cells. Stretching modifies their mechanical stress, and they start behaving like normal cells!

                                               Cells do matter

        Yogic exercise of stretching the nerves and toning the nervous system that ultimately affect cells mechanically, can, therefore, affect the body positively at a cellular level.

        Till now the biological and medical community have believed that whenever they wanted to know why a cell behaved in a certain manner, they needed only to identify genes, proteins and other chemical processes and pathways for answers. The biological community considers chemical processes to be a part of paramount importance. However, in nature, all forces are taken into account for a system’s evolution, and mechanical stress at a cellular level is as important and prevalent as the chemical process.
