In daily life, anyone often has the feelings like sad, injured, angry, hate … but if one or many emotions are repeated many times and prolonged, it will damage nervous system and lead to illness. These cases are called stress in science.

How does the body react physical stress?

Stress (stress, anxiety too much) has recently mentioned a lot in the health sector but people talk much about general damages and give out the very general advices such as be optimistic to pass sadness, eat well and do exercises and sports …These are essential for health but it is not easily done for people in stress. The causes of stress phenomenon are very different but the body’s reactions to them are the same. So, it is necessary to get the knowledge of each stress phase to have a deal with stress actively and successfully.

1.        Alarm phase

Psychological operations are enhanced, especially the attention, memory and thinking. When individuals exposed to stressors, the physiological functions of body, particularly the sympathetic nervous system, strengthen activities, increase blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate and muscle tone …This phase occurs rapidly from several minutes to several hours.  The patient may die in this period if factors of stress are too strong, too complex. If human body can pass over, the initial reactions will shift to adaptation phase.

2. Adaptation phase

In this phase, the body’s resistance increases, people can master stress situations. If body has a high adaptability, the physiological function of body is recovery. On the contrary, if the recovery process will not occur, the body moved to the exhaustion phase.

3. Exhaustion phase

Stress response becomes pathological when stress situations happen unexpectedly, intensely and exceed the adaptive capacity of the body. During this period, the psychological changes can be centralized and turn back alarm phase.

For clinical psychology, responses to acute stress make the patient as excessive arousal both psychology and physic with the expression: increase muscle tone and facial expressions, gestures stiff, sore feeling in the body; disorder plant neurological such as tachycardia with a pain before the heart, high blood pressure, difficulty breathing, fainting, sweating, headache, appear the pain many places, especially the muscles. The patient will increase sensation, especially hearing, so the normal noise also becomes discomfort, anger easily, restlessness, agitation, behavioral disorders  …

Each person has a different response to stress.

The physiological response of individual to stress depends on awareness of stimulation what is harmful to it or not, as well as its ability of prediction and control for adverse events.

The perception of control also has an effect on the impact of stress.

The event doesn’t make the same stress for everybody. The level of stress depends on the meaning of events and the potential availability of individual as well as the skills and potential availability of each person in dealing with the event. When an event is detected as benign, the positive emotions such as fun, love, happiness, excitement, peace will take place. If the event is specified as injurious, the negative emotions like anxiety, fear, guilt, frustration or depression will appear. The positive events will enhance health. While the negative identification as well as the response is inadequate and ineffective as stress factors occur.
