Autism

When they are given the diagnosis of autism, parents are very fearful. Autism has various levels. Children who have been diagnoses as autistic are further categorized as having low-, medium- or high-functioning autism. (HFA, LFA and MFA). The severity is determined by the IQ score. The disorder that deals with how one’s brain develops is called autism.

Autism is a spectrum or array of symptoms, it’s not just a one-symptom disorder. An autistic child has socialization issues, little interest in things and is unable to effectively communicate.

Unfortunately there is no cure for autism. Doctors have gained a lot of ground in their research to ensure that Autistic individuals function with much more ease. Some people with autism can function quite normally while others with severe autism probably will need constant assistance.

Most people believe that autistic children want to be alone, but that is not true. The autistic child has difficulty interacting with others, both through communication and/or eye contact.

People with autism almost always have a repetitive behaviorist personality. Individuals with autism often exhibit such behaviors as rocking, rolling their heads, flapping their hands, and will move about without purpose. They also might display compulsive behavior such as demanding that objects be placed in the exact same manner at all times.

People with autism detest changes. They generally have a need to KNOW that certain events will occur at a given time and, as they get older, on a certain day as well. They are not fond of menu changes. They aren’t appreciative of any rearrangement of their furniture.

In autistic children self inflicted injuries are not uncommon and actually it is one third of these children who are quite used to this type of behavior. Children who are known as autistic savants show high levels of accomplishments in one particular field.
