Battling Emotional Difficulties – a Different Kind of War

Dealing with "emotional difficulties".

Having “emotional” difficulties can interfere with your life in many, many ways.  In the event you have to deal with them you will be thrust into a dizzying world of therapy and possibly psychopharmacolgy.  Now it is true that some of these drugs are quite helpful.  However – even the best of tham have side effects ranging from weight gain to “tardive dyskenesia” – a condition which causes facial tics and other bodily motions.

Dealing with mental health professionals is not easy.  The majority of them are well intentioned.  However, by going to someone for help in getting your mind “together” you are surrendering some of your privacy and your very selfhood.  Quite a number of these healers find it easy to insult their patients(for some reason) and they (at times) think they know everything.

If you are caught in the “trap” there are ways to fight back.  I have found both support groups and poetry “readings” to be quite therapeuticc.  I went to “Recovery” for a number of years – (which was founded by the late Abraham Lo).  In this support group “mental health professionals” are not allowed to participate.  The group is intended to help control anger and also build ones constitution.

Heaven forbid you get a “healer” who has a different world outlook than you do.  You are at their mercy!  I have found that going to poetry readings is quite as helpful as going to support groups.  If you write verse(which more people should) you can have a good time “showing off” your work.  It is also a way- “like support groups” to build a network of friends.  Once  I remarked to someone that, “The arts are just as bad as politics.” She replied , “No, they aren’t  – they aren’t”  She was right

Meditation and relaxing music are helpful, too.  Let the soft words of meditation and the sound of a flute, violin, or piano or any one of your favorite instrument help you deal with your tormented soul.  You can find a easy out!  At least that is my belief. Peace and Health to all Triond Readers.
