Here are five steps you can use to deal with stressful situation.
Realise what is causing the stress. Are you finding that you are getting worked up for some reason. That something has caused you to change your behaviour in some way? Identify what has cauased you to react like that and figure out the cause of what is really bothering you.
Work out how to respond. We all have the power to choose how we are going to respond to certain situations. Depending on the situation, decide what you are going to do with it. Does the issue matter and how much control do you really have over the situation?
Put it into perspective. Focus on what is important and look to put the issue in perspective where it belongs. Is the source of stress in the past, present, or future? You can’t change the past, but you can respond to the present and prepare for the future. It’s important to let your past troubles fade into the distance, whilst taking the important lessons to be learnt from them.
Put it where it belongs. Think about where the issue belongs. If the issue is beyond your control, then stop worrying about it. Or even if it really isn’t that important, it doesn’t have a place in your life. To counter act this, try doing things like, thinking about other things, inhaling deeply, visualising calming and relaxing things, or getting away from the cause of the stress.
Deal with it. If it’s something that you can deal with then make a plan to resolve the issue and face it head on. Many issues are not as big as they seem and with some help and support can be overcome.
