Green Tea to Combat Depression

Green tea has so many good qualities and health benefits. It may be an alternative to drugs to combat mild depression.

Try green tea for depression. So many things in life can intensify depressive thoughts and feelings. Major life changes can bring about negative thinking and feelings of hopelessness. Chemical imbalances also can bring about a depressive state. Green tea may be one alternative to drugs because of the natural healthy elements it contains.

There is a correlation between what foods and drinks we chose to take into our bodies, and depression. Depression is a condition which negatively affects not only the mind and emotions, but the body as well. What we eat and drink can positively affects our minds, emotions, and bodies, and help combat the symptoms of depression, if we choose the right things to take into our bodies. There are several foods that naturally boost mood and well-being. Green tea is one drink that has an effect on all three states of existence, in a positive way.

If you’ve ever felt mentally relaxed during and after having a cup of green tea, there is a reason. For the mind, green tea contains L-Theanine, an amino acid which creates a mental calmness. Worries may not be completely eradicated, but things in life may seem less troublesome! Speaking of the mind, green tea is great for memory and learning also.

Too much stress can facilitate depression. We all know stress affects our emotions. But green tea, and other teas as well, lower the levels of the stress hormone, Cortisol, by increasing the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain. These neurotransmitters, like Serotonin for example, need to be at a high level to combat things like depression, insomnia, PMS, suicide, and other stress related conditions. When serotonin is low in the brain, these conditions are more apparent.

Depression causes one to experience low levels of energy. The small amount of caffeine in green tea is good for a boost. Of course taking in too much caffeine is not a good thing, but low levels of it do not hurt.

There are things in life we cannot change, like the death of a loved one, or some incurable illness we have developed in our bodies, which leave many people feeling depressed. But our choices in nutrition can be altered, so that we can take care of our bodies properly, and nurture positive feelings within ourselves. Green tea may offer great health benefits, creating a positive mental state and bringing some peace of mind through the valley that is depression. Try it for a pick-me-up.
