Happiness is a state of mind. It is a very important element in our life, altruistically as well as personally. We has to take it seriously, because as individuals we owe it to our spouse, our children, our friends to be as happy as we can be. We can see the trauma in a child’s face when she /he grow up in an unhappy environment, and parents too suffer if they have an unhappy child.

The very idea that we have to work at happiness comes as news to many people. We assume that we are happy when good things happen to us, things over which we have little or no control. But the opposite is true; happiness largely is in our control. It is a constant battle in our mind. To achieve a happier life, it is necessary to overcome some stumbling blocks, three of which are:

Comparing Ourselves to Others

Most of us compare ourselves with anyone who we think is happier- a relative, an acquaintance or often, someone, we barely know. I had once met a young lady who came across as very successful, confident and happy. She spoke of her love for her husband and her daughters. She had come to take part in a talk show. During the show she spoke about modern world and Internet, and how internet is a blessing for many. She told me later, that she finds informations about multiple sclerosis- the terribledisease afflicting her husband.on the net.
