Mudras are very powerful. If you practice these mudras regularly you can see the wonderful health benefits.

  1. I enjoyed this article very much. I know many people who would like to read it as well so I am sending your link in my email.

    Thank you for sharing.

  2. Thanks for ur comment.

  3. It was really great of you to share ancient Indian techniques with all. I knew some of them before, but didn’t know the exact names. Also, you’ve introduced me to many new ones.

    Great work,
    Onflame

  4. Hi Valli
I read the article and tried to practice the Mudras. It really loosened the muscles of my palm & fingers.

But how can I sustain any mudra for 45 minutes?
    Susan

  5. Thanx for all the comments.

    @ Susan

Need not sustain any Mudra continuously for 45 minutes. Give a break of minute or two when u feel u cannot sustain. Just make sure that the total time you exercise is 45 minutes.

  6. Seriously, you expect people to believe contorting your fingers yields medical results? How absurd. I may as well visit a witch doctor!

What’s the rational connection? Show me scientific medical studies.

  7. Travis, neurons(nerve cells) have their tips throughout the base of the skin. However, they are most active at certain points on our palms and beneath the feet. When mudras are practised, these neuron tips get activated and function efficiently to give better results. The best part is, there are no side effects like those due to some types of medicines. This has been proven scientifically. These practices have been there in India since long and they are slowly gaining international popularity and worldwide acceptance.

    Hope that helped,
    Onflame

  8. These are surprisingly hard! One hand at a time or both at once?

  9. Thats well explained by Onflame. It has been long known that nerve endings in our palms and feet can be stimulated to activate various organs.

    @ Ken
You can practice with one hand as well, but it is supposed to be more effective when done with both the hands at once.

  10. Many thanks for sharing these ancient Mudras, I am sure there was some basis to these techniques; I would love to read the scientific evidence, where are they reported? Conceptually it does not sound dissimilar from the Chinese system of auricular accupuncture however.

  11. Valli, this is an outstanding article; thanks to you for writing it. For the debunkers wanting “scientific studies” and medical proof, your orthodox medical cartels in the US alone, kill over a quarter of a million people a year – and that’s by the AMA’s own admission. Of those victims, over a hundred thousand a year die from FDA-approved drugs. If the FDA ever approved mudras, they’d promptly make them illegal! I haven’t been to a doctor in thirty years and I have less reason now than ever to begin doing. Don’t forget: a cured patient is a lost customer.

  12. OK, I’m sorry I jumped the gun on this one!!! I was looking for more information and found that article…I will put my brain into gear in future before commenting!

  13. With all due respect, I have a hard time believing that holding the hands in a particular position can cure a cold.

  14. I am sceptical, but open-minded. If there are any scientific studies published om mudras, preferrably, by some kind of objective, blind control comparison, please direct us to them.

  15. Hi Valli, that was a great article. I really enjoyed reading it. And Dont BOTHER about anyone who asks you scientific evidence for these. These orthodox people take any drug given by medical practioners without asking for evidence that it cures any problem, or even wonder if that drugs have any side effects. But They are “sceptical” to try something which is harmless. Valli, I ask u to just disregard these comments. Just because a few orthodox people dont like ur article does not mean it isnt good or helpful. According to me u have done a very good job introducing these mudras to people who suffer so much due to all those chemical drugs.

Please write more articles like these,
    jetty

  16. Thanks for all the comments.

  17. Wow, I really like jetty’s comment (comment #18) What he speaks is indeed true, and I agree. I too request for more articles like this as it is really easy to keep good health this way.

  18. I plan to write more articles on yoga anyway, but they might take a bit of time…

  19. Wonderful and it works for me

    http:/squidoo.com/omiai

  20. #1 really works! Thanks!

  21. I liked what jetty had to say. I myself have taken prescriptions from my doctor without a second thought. I’m going to give mudras a try, after all even if they don’t work for me what harm has been done.

  22. @jetty:
That’s a straw man argument if I ever saw one. You’re making a huge leap, and a blindly emotional one, by assuming everything you do about those who ask about the scientific evidence behind a practice that the author is CLAIMING TO BE SCIENTIFIC!

  23. Great:) Thanks

I find that even focusing on a particular result EX:(releasing stress) while doing a routine- Improves whatever i am focusing on.

I do Feel there is great power and energy in the hands

  24. My acupuncturist, who has had twelve years of study in Chinese medicine, says that Chinese medicine evolved from Indian aurevedic (sp) medicine.

  25. Thank you so much for this guidance

  26. For Jesse:

You make an excellent point. If one makes a ’supernatural’ claim then it is up to the individual to make a leap of faith, but if one declares his or her method to be scientific it’s more than reasonable to ask for the relevant research.

    For Jetty:
Science is not evil. We look to see if we can understand the world to make it better- higher standards of living, lower death rates etc. We would not make progress if we did not ask questions.

  27. “It is not the sign of a candid and scientific mind to throw overboard anything without proper investigation. Surface scientists, unable to explain the various extraordinary mental phenomena, strive to ignore their very existence. They are, therefore, more culpable than those…”
“They (the sages) ask us to take up the method and practise honestly, and then, if we do no find the higher truth, we will have the right to say there is no truth in the claim, but before we have done that we are not rational in denying the truth of their assertions.”
    - Swami Vivekananda in Raja Yoga.

Don’t just say it’s not scientific or that it’s supernatural. Just as you ask for evidence why don’t you follow the path and get the evidence yourself.
Go to the roots of it and know the Truth. And I bet knowing more about Science would surely complement you in knowing more about the Truth.

  28. I think we should dance this one out.

  29. I thankyou for the above outstanding article. It is beneficial for all.

  30. Thank you for sharing! God Bless!

  31. I am depressed and suicidal. will try Gyan Mudra as often as I can. c what happens.

  32. Great and good info i also making site about health like yoga, aerobics, stomach exercise…Find more here

  33. i use the f u mudra, great with road rage

  34. Hi valli

Excellent article, i have been practising yoga and mudras. Experinced amazing benefits. One day some one will give a serious study and submit thesis on “Mudra therapy”.

  35. Thank you very much for all the comments.

@ Siva, really mudras do wonders and there is a need to study and develop these alternative remedies.

  36. Hi valli
Nice article.what are the mudras will help autistic, hyperactive childs. will you pl. help ?

    Sandeep

  37. Many thanks to Valli for the wonderful and informative artcile. I googled to find info on mudras and have been in the past few weeks, till now, have not seen even one that speaks actually about how long to practice for each of the mudras. Would be great to read more from you..
I am getting my elders to try this out as they are too week to do more rigourous gym exercises. I guess this is a powerful short cut. Would love to hear from someone with success on reducing weight by practice of the Mudras..

  38. Many thanks Valli for sharing your knowledge of the Mudras. I’m about to try the Shunya Mudra as I have earache due to a heavy cold. I read in a book on Jin Shin Jyutsu that each of our ten fingers can regulate 14,400 functions within the body.

Our bodies contain intelligence beyond our understanding, until we take time with an open mind to learn how it can help us.

    Om Shanti

  39. mudras are really effective. I have been using this for a long time now and i recommended all my friends. They too are happy now.

  40. I had menstrual problem. I spent so much money for this problem but once i stopped medicine again the problem came up. But now after practising mudras my periods are regular and that too without any medicines. I feel wonderful.

  41. Thank you very much, Vinitha.

  42. Fascinating read. I read this long ago, but perhaps did not leave my comment then. I believe wholeheartedly that this practice should prove healing.

  43. Thank you very much, Judy.

  44. Dear Valli ,Warm Greetings…..
Hats off to u, Really MUDRAs are very powerful. Im practicing them everyday. But what I noticed is, I practice them at night for around 30-35 mins, after that I wont get sleep for around 1-1.30 hrs. Is that I should practice them only in the morning ?

Pls send some more mudras to become STRONGE as I am very lean and weak.

    THX a TON,
Umashankar Shashidhar Kallur, HCL Technologies UK .

  45. I have re-read this article several times, and enjoy garnering a better understanding with each passing.

This time around, it’s occurred to me, that in the US’ youth groups of the “Boy Scouts” and “Cub Scouts” (of which I have been a long standing member and participant/leader) they have a hand signal that is VERY similar to the Gyan Mudra! In fact, the hand position usually calls for the tip of the first finger rolled into the thumb, instead of tip-to-tip. Still, everyone does it different; I find this distinct similarity amazing!

FTR, the groups have been official for many years, though I am unsure if the group has reached a centennial mark yet.

  46. @Umashankar Shashidhar Kallur
Thanks a lot 4 ur comment. As Mudras r known to activate ur nerves some ppl do feel activeness and lack of sleep immediately after practicing them. Practice them in the evenings if u can, or else stick only to the mornings. And coming to the mudras for becoming strong, they alone wudnt be able to make u so. Have proper diet and practice Surya Mudra and Apana Mudra, so that feel more hungry.

    @LateElf
    thanks for the comment

  47. Thanks A lot for sharing such a knowledgeble tips for protecting health.

These are simple and everybody will be able to do this.

    Thank you once again

  48. Once again Thanks a lot Valli.
Awaiting for more mudras from your end.

    Regs,
    Uma…..

  49. A few days ago, I was suffering from a horrible toothache, which started for no apparent reason. I felt so much pain in my gum, that I wasn’t able to sleep at all. I googled using keywords ‘yoga toothache’ and came across couple of sites that suggested that I do the Varuna mudra (where you touch the thumb to the little finger). I must admit I was quite sceptical, but I was ready to try anything. I sat in my bed and did the mudra for 10-15 minutes, and wonder of wonder, the pain subsided! Since then, I have been doing quite a bit of research on mudras – that’s how I came to this site. I can’t believe this information is not known to the general public. I suggested to my mother (who is arthritic) to try out a few mudras, and she already told me her arthritic pain has gone down significantly.

By the way, this site was the place that got me started on my mudra journey: http://hubpages.com/hub/Toothache_and_Mudras

  50. 4vmstWhat a GREAT contribution to our wellness. After being a holistic healthcare provider for 25 years, this is especially outstanding!

I have gone to the trouble of writing a book “Definitions for the Soulful Seeker”, which is soon to be available on PublicBookshelf.com free of charge as an e-book. This book will deal with the religious, spiritual, and enlightenment side of our being, and your efforts seem to be in the direction of the more physical side of our health, and that in turn is transformed into the area of the directing of the Chi via the Mudras! GREAT WORK!

    Dr T

  51. Thank you, Swamy Achanta, Umashankar Shashidhar, Jay, and Dr. Donald Thronburg for your appreciation and information.

  52. Valli,
I was wondering, during these exercises, is it better to keep your fingers and hands relaxed or to keep them flexed and rigid?

  53. @ thehoff88
Keep your fingers relaxed and practice.

  54. how about exercise for the foot……..is foot spa really a good exercise

  55. Dear Valli,
Thanks for the lovely article. It is a pity that I came across this only yesterday. Looking forward to many such practical articles from you. It is indeed a great to share knowledge without looking for reward!
    God bless you !

  56. Hi,
Very very useful information, thanks a lot.
Could you suggest any mudra for asthama & hair to grow thick & long ?

  57. Hi,

Is there any mudra which can help remove clots in blood?

  58. Thank you Shankar.

    @K. Uma
Prithvi Mudra, Prana Mudra are useful for growing thick and long hair. Linga Mudra is useful for all bronchial problems. In addition to these Mudras take protein rich diet.

    @George
Prana Mudra is helpful in releiving clamps from blood.

  59. Hello there Valli,
Thank you very much for the simple, yet very useful article on the mudras. Have been wondering whether there is any specific mudra which can help relieve fluid retention issues which can be quite debilitating to many women esp during and times close to menstrual cycles,
    Many thanks

  60. Dear Valli,

Nice article, enjoyed it, but on googling, i found many more mudras as well. My question is can there be multiple mudras for a same problem. Say for concentration and thinking can there be multiple mudras, if so which mudra should be followed??

  61. Rahul, thank you for reading. Of course, there are multiple mudras for the same problem, try the ones you find the easiest.

  62. Thank you for sharing these mudras. I can really feel energetic shift in my body as I consciously hold my hands in these ways. Everything is connected.

  63. Dear Valli,
Nice article. I am aware of few mudras but i do not practise them regularly :(
I have pain in few joints in legs and hands. Sometimes my hand leg go very stiff and i cannot move them for few minutes. Can you please suggest me some mudars and the frequency I should practise them.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks

  64. Thank you Sarah and Chandan for reading.

Chandan, practice Vayu mudra as many times as can you can regularly. It will help you a lot. And I’ll do a bit of research and let you know about the other mudras.

  65. I think you have takes these mudras from the book of Acharya Keshav Dev as he is the person who is considered the father of the subject Mudras.
    James

  66. Excellent !

  67. Good one. A logical mind can’t accept these mudra’s as we have been taught to believe what’s physical . Or we can understand only what we can. I have been practising such mudra’s as a part of my yoga and it has given me immense benefits which is inexplicable.
Better practise it and see the changes in you..

  68. I saw this site and ordered the product.

I like their newsletter. They give away free finger healing positions.

Are they the same as mudras?

    http://www.fingerhealing.com

  69. these mudras found quiet intresting. i am planning to practice. it will be great if you could tell me to get rid of the pain in the wrist of right hand and elbow. i think, most of software people might get this pain.
waiting for your your tip – mudra.
    thaks in advance.

  70. James, acutally I learned these mudras from my grand father.

Thanks for reading Dilip and Kuna.

Ralph, I don’t know about the website.

Vinitha Reddy, Gyan Mudra and Chin Mudra (touch the base of the thumb with the index finger and press it with the thumb while the other three fingers remained straight) help you to get rid of the pain. Sun salutation exercises and some asanas will also help.

  71. Thanks a lot for the useful posting, Valli.

    Can we practice Vayu Mudra:

    1. for > 45 mins per day? Is there a max limit? [I have chronic RSI for 8+ yrs and I want to practice for a longer duration to gain earlier cure]
    2. just after having food / bath?
    3. during menstruation cycle?

    Awaiting your reply.

  72. Dear Valli,

Thanks very much for the great article! My child birth has been delayed presumably due to formation of some layers in the uterus. My periods are regular but are accompanied by heavy flow and pain. Pls suggest the right set of Mudras for curing this problem.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Shubha Madhavan

  73. Thanks for reading Amrutha and Shubha.

Amrutha, Chin Mudra(touch the base of the thumb with the index finger and press it with the thumb while the other three fingers remained straight)helps you for RSI. Pratice this mudra for 10 to 15 minutes daily. For every mudra there is a maximum time limit and you should keep that in your mind. Don’t practice the mudra beyond the time limits as it may harm your body. With the usage of Vayu mudra, the Vayu element in the body fluctuates. The use of the mudra should be increased or decreased only after assessment of its impact on the body. The use of mudra should be discontinued when the pain subsides or the wind gets even. You can practice these mudras anytime and anywhere. But it is better to practice early in the morning or in the evening to get better results. You can practice these even in menstrual cycle, but don’t practice for longer times at that time.

Subha, Surya Mudra (Mudra of sun) helps you relieve heavy menstruation and menstrual pain. Maha Sacral Mudra (join the tips of two little fingers while two ring fingers touch the tips of thumbs for 3 minutes and join the tips of two ring fingers while the two little fingers touch the tips of thumbs for 3 minutes. Practice this mudra for two to three times daily until to get relief from the problem.

  74. Thanks a lot, Valli. I’ll start with 15 mins then.

  75. Valli,
Great work and thanks for helping out.

I have a few problems. I do have some gas problems during the day along with constipation in the morning, also my concentration requires some work. Is there a mudra, or a set of mudras, that I can practice that will help?

Also I spend a lot of time at work, can I just practice the mudras during the meetings and or seminars or does one need to concentrate completely while performing the mudras.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks again.
    Rajesh

  76. Great! Thanks for sending these useful tips. I started practicing these mudras and hope I will definitely succeed in getting a good health. Thank you very much once again,

    With best wishes,
    Chandra Sivakumar

  77. Nice

  78. Thank you Rajesh, CHANDRA SIVAKUMAR and Geeta for reading.

Rajesh, Vayu Mudra is very useful for eliminating gas in stomache. Apana Mudra and Suchi Mudra (Bend the thumb and press it with all the three fingers except the index finger. Stretch the index finger upwards. You can do this mudra with both the hands.) is very helpful for constipation. Practice Apan Mudra for 45 minutes and Suchi Mudra for 20 minutes daily until to get relief from the constipation. Don’t worry, mudras have flexibility. You can practice these mudras wherever and whenever you have time.

  79. Hi Valli,
Thanks a ton for your guidance. Appreciate your help very much.

    Just wanted a clarification on

1.whether Maha Sacral Mudra is for the uterus related problems.
2.When you say that the two ring fingers touch the tips of thumbs, is it in the same palm or in the other palm? i.e left ring finger to touch right thumb OR left ring finger to touch the left thumb.
3.Is it fine if I do combination of mudras one after other?

    Kindly help.

  80. Shubha, Maha Sacral Mudra is for uterus related problems in women and prostate complaints in men. It is also useful for bladder realted problems. Two ring fingers touch the tips of thumbs means the corresponding thumbs i.e. left ring finger to touch the left thumb and right ring finger to touch the right one. Of course, you can do various mudras one after another.

  81. Dear Valli,

Thanks so much for the great tips. After a week’s practice, I’m able to feel a clear, very significant reduction in the pain I constantly have in a specific spot on my right upper back. Of course, I have a long way to go as I’ve got RSI pain in lot of places but this is really a great start. May I increase the time of practice to say 30 mins now?

Really appreciate your selfless service and knowledge sharing! May God bless you!

    Regards,
    Amrutha Keshavan

  82. Hello Ms Valli,

Thanks a lot for the article! I’ve a problem: whenever I stand for more than say 15 mins or whenever I try to fall asleep or whenever I’m woken up while I’m asleep, I get cramps in my front thighs and calf muscles. Sometimes this starts in the form of shivering and ends in pain. Sometimes I get this problem when I end up holding urine in unforeseen situations. I was doing yoga for abt an year but had to stop due to this problem as I got this pain even after doing asanas. I’m an IT professional and I sit for long hours (at least 9) on the chair.

What is the cause for this problem? Is there a cure with Mudras? Kindly help me out.

    Warm Regards,
    T.Bhooma

  83. Amrutha, I am very happy to hear that mudras are working for you. OK,now increase the practising time and reach the maximum limit. Rememeber, regular practice and patience can relieve you from the disease. As you have a chronic pain it takes several months or may be years (don’t get disappointed, you will get permanent relief).

Bhooma, try Vayu Mudra, it should help. I’ll do more research and tell you if there are mudras that can help you.

  84. Hi Valli Very nice artical. But pl let me know one thing that whether we can practice all mudhars every day or we have to practice only one which is needed.

  85. Kalyan, thank you for reading. There is no need to practice all the mudras every day and practice only the mudras that are needed.

  86. Hey.. thanx a million for this wonderful info..
I don’t know how 2 thank u for this.. I Hope this works.. I’ll start practicing from now on.. But i wish this works.. & i hope it’s not just a waste of time…
Main i concentrate on loosing weight & improve concentration mudra’s..
oh my.. i’m so happy for knowing this great info.. once again thanx a million..
    PEACE!!!

  87. You are a Godsend Valli. Your grandfather has certainly left a wonderful legacy for you. As for skepticism…well come’s with the territory I suppose. Bit like the orthodox/conventional doctor who wants scientific evidence but goes to church anyway to pray to a Higher Power that he can’t see…go figure…
I will certainly be trying all these wonderful techniques as I suffer quite badly with joint pain, respiratory problems and the list goes on…as one had already commented, a cured patient is a lost customer…
    Once again Valli…thank you!!!

  88. It feels very nice to see my article helping so many people. Thanks to God and to my Grandfather, and of course to all you people, for giving such nice feedback. Thank you one and all.

  89. Hi Valli

I have been practicing some of the mudras relevant to conditions that I have. However, I was wondering if, you don’t have certain ailments or conditions such as heart problems but would like to do that particular mudra to strengthen the heart etc, can that be done?

  90. Yeah it can be done,KiMaia.

  91. hello I am new to this website. I would like to add regarding Mudra this works wonder on health. There is everything in front of us GOD has given us but the thing is to reach it and you will get it.
    Hope
    Faith and trust

  92. Farida, thanks for the valuable info.

  93. Hi Valli,
The article is very nice and it is very useful to this generation. I want to know top of the page mudras shown so practice should be done by both the hands or the pictures shows the hand. could you reply for my question. so that i improve my health.

    Thanks for sharing this article

  94. Ratnakar, except Linga mudra all the mudras can be done with single hand. If you desire you can practice these mudras with both the hands also.

  95. Hallo Madam.

The writings are wonderful. Still to say, you have great KNOWLEDGE collection which is the gift of your Ancestors. These traditional mudhras was followed in my family too in our ancient days.

Even we use to tease our Grand Father who was doing all those things. On those days we thought, our grandfa is a loose. (Unsound mind)

In our brahmin culture also, these same mudhras also applied during the 3 times daily SANTHYAVANTHANA practice.

But it is true, that i have not realized it, and use to think for what? These people are sitting and folding those fingers for long time and making criminal waste of time and efforts.

Even when i gone through our native language books (Tamil) we are not getting much simple and detailed information.

So if you please publish this in a book form and with Multilanguage translation editions, then it will be useful for the people who are with sick and disease.

Because, still internet have not reached the homes of middle class in India. we believe it will take at least 10 years to see internet connections in every people house like television. So permit the public to grasper your knowledge.

Actually I am having the disease of PHERIPHERAL NURITIES, LUMBAR LORDOSIS, CERVICAL SPONDYLITIS, and SACRALIZATION. Due to this I have started the YOGA practice as a beginner too though I have passed my HALF LIFE (42 years)

People are use to say, when we are doing breathing practice, or mudhra practice, or some yogas like pathanchali and all, it may drive us to a negative ends of handicappism or paralysis or sudden heart block deaths. (This happened to one of our thick most relative – who use to do all yogas regularly and at his 50 years he passed away just in the bathroom silently) He was having sugar complaint too. But our circle use to say, that gentleman was always doing yogas and asanas and he was doing practice of PATHANJALI yoga too. So some mis positions, or some mispractice lead him to death.

So this is my FEAR FACTOR for so many years. But in facts I have to escape any way from my forementioned disease.

So I have read both 7 + Again 8 mudhra technics. I belive this will save my life.

    Thanking you.
    Rajan .
    Tamilnadu.

  96. i want to know should the mudras be done on the Right hand or Left hand?

your article is very informative and hope you will continue to post more in the furture also.

    best regards
    deepak

  97. Rajan, thanks for the support. I have a plan to publish books on yoga. You are right. There is no harm due to yoga. But while doing certain poses (asanas) one should strictly follow the instructions, otherwise it may cause harm. Better late than never. Practice Gyan Mudra and Vayu Mudra for Cervical Spondylitis. Standing poses (asanas) help you for Peripheral Neuritis and Padmasana (Lotus pose), Bhujangasana (cobra pose) and Sethu Bandhasana (bridge pose) are helpful for Lumbar Lordosis.

Deepak, generally mudras can be done with right hand, but you can practice with left hand or both the hands too.

  98. Hi Valli,
I\’ve some uterus related problem. The lining of the uterus is not getting thickend and the blood circulation is not good.
If the blood circulation becomes good, then automatically the lining of the uterus would increase in a healthy way.
This has a huge impact on implantation and would help me in conceiving.
Please let me know what mudra would be good for healing this problem.

    regards,
    Pavi.

  99. Hi Pavithra,
Very sorry to hear your problem. Maha Sacral Mudra, Aswini Mudra and Yoni Mudra can be helpful to you. And try these asanas too:
Bidalasana, Bhujangasana, Navasana, and Ekapada rajakapotasana.

  100. Hello Valli,

Thanks for sharing this great article on Seven Mudras for Amazing Health Benefits.

I would like to share few of problems with you and hope you will suggest knowing what mudra would be good for healing/overcoming this problem.

I’ve some problem in my writing. Whenever I start writing for about 5 minutes or 10 minutes I feel lot of pain in my palm and fingers. Hence, my handwriting slowly becomes wired. If we compare the handwriting in the 1 page with one in second page they booth look different. I feel very difficult during my exams because of this problem. I tried to practice my handwriting on daily basis but it become worst day by day.

I’ve also have some memory problem and lack of concentration. I often not be able to remember any names of people around me who are there for a long time.

I would also like to know if there are any asanas.

I heartily thanks for your suggestions.

    Warm regards,
    Vishwanath

  101. Vishwanath, Gyan Mudra is very helpful in increasing concentration and memory power. Paschimottasana, Chakrasana, Sirshaasana and Trikonasana are very helpful for your problems.

  102. Valli, Thanks for sharing this article.

Please tell me if there is any mudra or asana which is helpful in curing writer’s cramp. Actually one of my family member is suffering from writer’s cramp because of this he is facing difficulties in writing.

Writer’s cramp is one of a considerable group of so-called occupational neuroses occurring with more or less frequency among persons whose living depends upon their ability to use their hands rapidly and continuously for many hours a day, such as writers, telegraphers, pianists, violinists, seamstresses etc. It may affect only one or two muscles, or it may involve the entire hand, or the entire arm and shoulder. The chief symptom is inability to use the hand, or difficulty in using it, for writing or other occupational purposes. Writer’s cramp, being the most common of these maladies, is usually treated as representative of the group.

    Thanks for your help!!!
    Vinay.

  103. Vinay,
Gyan Mudra, Paschimottasana, Chakrasana, Sirshaasana, Halasana, Sarvangasana and Trikonasana are very helpful for the problems reported by you.

Similarly, join the forefinger with the middle finger of the other hand and vice versa. Leave the thumbs free), Shankha mudra (Hold your hands in front at the chest. Grasp your left thumb with your right hand, wrapping your fingers around it firmly. Now place the rest of your left hand fingers so they meet the right thumb. Together both hands look like a conch. Hold this hand formation at chest level) help you for inflammation. Also try these asanas (poses) for Rheumatoid Arthritis: Half Wheel, Bow, Plough, Head Stand, Backward Bend. For acne wash your face at least three to four times daily using herbal face wash and apply herbal face pack weekly once. 121. Which mudra to do when you cannot sleep coz ur mind is very active….

  122. I have such a bad wrist/elbow/bicep/back issue that i can only type for a few minutes…. and it plagues me in many other ways too….i have mostly given up typing…. even though i am a writer :(

i have started the asanas you have reccomended for writer’s cramp, and i am wondering about mudra. when i do any of them, even for a minute, i feel a burning in my arms (which is normal for me when i use my hands).

should i go ahead and do them (vayu and chin) mudra even with the burning sensation?

    thanks,

and looking forward to your book

  123. I tried all the mudras and found them fairly easy to do. If they deliver what they say then great if not it doesn’t matter. I opened my mind to try something new and that was an adventure. I also found that it was just a great way to relax and focus solely on what my body was doing rather than what ails or worries me. Snowboarding affects me the same way and I love it. No stress just me listening to my body and connecting.
    Cheers everyone!

  124. Ramachandran, Gyan Mudra is very effective in treating insomina.
Arthur, keep practicing the mudras for a month or so, you should see some improvement. If not, then discontinue the mudras. Regarding the pain I suggest you keep taking breaks every minute.

  125. Is there a mudra for treating nearsightedness? Thanks.

  126. Yes you can practise Pran Mudra and read the book Mudras For Healing By His Divine Grace Acharya Keshav Dev Ji.

  127. Hi Valli,

I am having digestion problem .Can you suggest some mudra.
Apana Mudra can help but when to do it .After the meal or during empty Stomach. Please Suggest

  128. Subodh, Mudras are flexible. You can practice them according to your convenience whenever you have time. If possible practice them early in the morning or in the evening for better results.

  129. Valliji,
Can Apana vayu mudra ‘cure’ piles (haemorrhides)? I would like to try.
    My questions:
    1. while doing the mudra, ring and middle finger bend. Is it ok?
    2. Doing continuously for 45 minutes is … difficult. Can I do it in 4 or 5 bouts?

  130. “There’s this’s thing about being so open minded that your brains fall out.” Richard Dawkins

  131. i haven’t read all the comments, but i have read some pretty closed minded ones which is kind of a pet peeve of mine… i mean, half the time, now that i think about it, what else are my hands and fingers doing when i’m walking, sitting in the car (passenger), or just any other basic daily activities… it doesn’t take any effort really to practice these mudras so why not give them a chance? is it because western culture has put us in such a state of predisposition that anything that isn’t hamburgers and sports is considered lunacy… ?
give mudras a chance, they’re fun and effortless.. and also, very nice post, i learned a few new ones here :)

  132. Kushlal, Apana Mudra cures your problem. Practice the Mudra according to the method suggested in the article. There is no need to practice continuously, but make sure the total time you exercise is 45 minutes.

  133. Thank you for this useful information, Valli.
How should I go about if I want to practice all or many mudras ?
Can I do 1 or 2 mudras a day for 15-30 minutes and then do 1 or 2 different mudras the next day, and so on? Are there any mudras which shouldn’t be done in succession ?

  134. my good friend has speech problem, i mean stamerring. can mudra help in curing the same. I wish to know can mudras help in increasing male’s sexual problems, such Erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation?

  135. Thank you for this service to benefit mankind…God bless

  136. Thanx for sharing Great Pokkisham from Ancestors.

  137. Subhodayam !

    Dear Valli !

Plz don’t laugh, this is also a serious trouble of many of us!

Plz let me know how can I get rid of the constipation problem, as I used to take 1 ½ to 2 Lts of drinking water in early hours, before brushing my teeth, within half an hour I go to toilet and become free. This is a daily practice for years. If any thing goes wrong with my timing, if I couldn’t getup early in the morning and need to hurry to my office and can’t spare that 30 mts or 45 mts to drink water and to toilet, I directly go for brush and bath. Even I try to eliminate the solid waste from my body – many a time (almost all times !) I go in vain. The only solution I found is drinking water and go for toilet.

My ? is, is it a good practice or in a long run it becomes the only way to go restroom. I don’t find any harm drinking that much of water early in the morning (easily I drink 2 lts of water within 5-10 mts of duration). The only consequence I fear, If I were in traveling or in a meeting at early hours, it happens to go urinals at least 3-5 times up to 10:00 A.M., of course this can be managed.

Whether can I go for any better method in doing defecation in order to save the waiting time and from frequent usage of urinals.

Kindly suggest the way I can do without interrupting my works.

  138. Satish, Apana Mudra (Mudra of digestion) helps you in relieving your problem.

    Hegde

  151. My daughter has bad seasonal allergies and also has eczema. She is under homeopathy treatment for years and things are lot better then before. But still spring and fall time she constantly has running nose and here and there she has eczema. She has eczema spots all of the body. This limits her from wearing Sari. Which mudra will help her? Thanks so much for this article.

  152. @Chandra, Practice Ashwini mudra and vajroli mudra; and also padnasana (lotus pose), Sethubandhasana (bridgepose) and halasana (plough pose)to improve sperm count and mobility.

@AKB, Prithvi Mudra and Prana Mudra are useful for growing thick and long hair. In addition to these Mudras take protein rich diet.

@Hedge, Apana Mudra is very useful for pregnant women. There is no harm in practicing these Mudras during pregnancy.

@Alka, Varun Mudra cures all types of skin diseases. Herbs like neem, tulsi and sandalwood are effective in curing acne, eczema and other skin diseases; try the face pack of sandal wood and neem.

  153. Thankyou for these mudras.

Which mudra would be best for me to concentrate on? My problem is that I have uterine fibroids, which cause anaemia and depression in me.

I would be very grateful for your advice.

  154. Thanks for your response. I am exploring myself to learn more and mudra. And I have noticed there are slight differences in madras method in different web sites. For ex” Gyna Mudra you are suggesting keep other fingers stretched out and other wed site says keep curved. May be it doesn’t matter as long as tip of the thumb touched to the tip of the index finger..?

  155. Yeah, you are correct.

  156. Hello Valli

Although I have been practicing mudras with excellent results, I’m writing in and asking on behalf of my younger brother. He has been diagnosed with secondary cancer in his lower jaw…It appears that it may have been caused from the radiotherapy treatment received for his primary cancer which was in the tongue. I know my brother is exhausted and tired of the probing and prodding. However he has agreed to start chemo in the next 2 weeks. Can you recommend any mudras that he could use as part of his treatment programme. Your advice would be most appreciated…Thank you so much…

  157. Ki Maia,

I am very sorry to hear about your brother’s condition.

Sun salutation exercises, pranayama and asanas like Sukhasana, Padmasana and Parvatasana help your brother. Yoga sleep reduces the pain and feeling of nausea during chemotherapy.

Phosphorous 30, a homeopathic drug is beneficial in treating the cancer of lower jaw.

I wish him a speedy recovery!

  158. Aviva, sorry, I missed ur comment. Gyan Mudra helps you a lot in relieving depression. Ashwini Mudra and Anuloma Viloma Pranayama are beneficial for uterine fibroids.

  159. Hi Valli,
I am very encouraged and motivated after seeing the amount of comments you have garnered on your page. I often wander here, since google search results for ‘hand mudras’ always yields your page in the first few results.
I have been practicing Mudras since a long time and recommended it to friends too. They all have benefited from one or the other Mudra practice. I have realized from my personal experience that Mudras affect us at the physical, mental and spiritual level.
Some of the mudras that show instantaneous results are the Vayu Mudra, Apana Mudra and esp. the Mahasirs Mudra (extremely effective in headaches and migraines). I especially wanted to put forth the mention of ‘Mahasirs Mudra’ as it has been immensely effective with a friend of mine who suffered from constant headaches.
Also for all the readers who are interested I have a copy of the eBOOK titled ‘MUDRAS YOGA in your HANDS’ by ‘Gertrud Hirschi’. If you need a copy just contact me at cpmbdpmb@yahoo.com. I wish you all a wonderful time exploring yourself with Mudras!

  160. @Hegde @Valli
I wouldn’t recommend Apan mudra for pregnant women, until delivery time!!! I have found this warning attached with the Apan Mudra on various sites :
”Caution: This Mudra should not be done by pregnant ladies before completing 8 months. After that a 10 minutes practice 3 to 4 times a day will ensure normal delivery”

  161. @Geetanjali, As I already said, this article is written based on the personal experiences of many people. It is not based on half-knowledge or incomplete experiences. Mudras can do no harm to any person if done correctly. I myself am witness for it. Only careless and excess practice can do harm.

  162. Dear Valli,

Thanks for this great knowledge from India.

I have been a Mudra fan for several years now, they are miraclous. Isn’t it funny people have already begun selling it in book form such as ‘Finger Yoga’!!! This is the problem with Western capitalism.

Q & A is extremely helpful. I am suffering from acidity, do you recommend any mudra for acidity?

  163. Hello Valli,

Thanks for sharing this with the world. My problem is i get constant headaches ( migrane related, also regular headaches) that makes me very sick. One person has recommended the Maharsirs mudra for this. Can you please let me know how to do this mudra and how long should i do it everyday?
I would really appreciate it. You can email me at rmahadevan@yahoo.com

  164. Sucheta, Try Vayu Mudra, Varuna Mudra and Surya Mudra for your problem.

Mahesh, Touch the tip of thumb with the tips of index and middle fingers. Keep your ring finger into the fold of the thumb and stretch the little finger (time duration 15 to 20 minutes).

  165. Thanks for your suggestions Valli, I will add the three to my regular regimen.

I am surprized that you have not added \’Mrit Sanjeevini Mudra\’ as a first aid for Heart Attack, in my own experience, even Gyan Mudra instantly takes care of palpitations.

This is especially for ALL the skeptics. What do you think?

  166. Sucheta, Apana Vayu Mudra is nothing but Mrit Sanjeevini Mudra. This is a wonderful remedy for heart patients.

  167. Thank you Valli ji.
You are right. I don’t know how I missed it.

  168. Hi VAlli;

Can you tell me which mudra is good for dry eyes, which is due to working with the computer

    Regards

  169. Hi Valli;

    I have migraine headaches too.
For migraine headaches you have mentioned –
Touch the tip of thumb with the tips of index and middle fingers. Keep your ring finger into the fold of the thumb and stretch the little finger (time duration 15 to 20 minutes). what do you mena by the fold of the thumb…Is it the space between the index finger and thumb or it is on the palm where the thumb bends?
    Thanks & regards

  170. Priya, Varuna Mudra and Prana Mudra help you.

Anushka, It is on the palm where the thumb bends. Check out this article for the image:

    http://www.healthmad.com/Alternative/Mudras-Again-Eight-More-Mudras-for-Health-Benefits.136028

  171. Well wouldn’t our world be a more wonderful place if we all brought and accepted positive thoughts and words for one another. Please keep negative thoughts and challenges, even for the purpose of ‘discussion’ to yourself. Accept something for what it appears and again add positive rather than negative. The old saying goes, ‘if you don’t have anything positive to say, then don’t say it’ but then again to rephrase, ’spread positive’. It just plain feels good.

  172. Hi Valli,

wonderful collection, hats off to you!

I have a doubt about “PARIVATAN MUDRA” which I found in one of the websites I came across, as especially effective against insomnia and would give good sleep.

Would you be able to elaborate on it?

  173. Hari, Gyan mudra is very beneficial for insomnia. However if you want to know about parivatan mudra this is the procedure:

join your hands by interlocking the fingers. Now press the back of the left hand with the fingers of right hand and vice versa. Repeat this procedure for 10 times. This is also very effective for insomnia.

  174. Can you suggest any mudra for running nose and early morning continuous thummal for my mother and my sister is having cough throughout the day and she is not interested in taking medicines.
    Thanks in advance

  175. Wow. This is really fun to practice at home. I never had done some yoga and planning to attend some classes together with my friends. Thanks for this. Terrific!

  176. Jayanthi, Linga Mudra is beneficial for your mother and sister. If you sister is having dry cough try Vayu Mudra.

Try this home remedy for running nose.
Apply a drop of mustard oil to the right and left nostril everyday. Steam with turmeric is also very effective.

Thanks Mayumie for your nice comment.

  177. Thanks a lot valli. I will tell them to practice it.

  178. What is the mudra to cure parkinson’s dieseae…

  179. Shankar, Vayu Mudra is very helpful for Parkinson’s disease.

  180. valli its gr8 2 hv Q & A session..plz suggest me..i lost som of my hair in d front side, its heriditory…its losing day by day..is prasanna mudra hlpful for tht & shud ths b done on an empty stomch only..is it enogh 2 practise 4 15-20mn daily..

  181. Sindhu, Mudras have flexibility. You can practice them whenever you have time. I have no idea about Prasanna Mudra, try and let me know the reliability.

  182. Dear Valli, I’m surprised that you donate your time so generously to all these questions. Thank you. It seems to have been a while since you’ve had anyone questioning the scientific basis for healing mudras, but I would like to contribute my favorite thought to them, by reminding the psuedo-scientists of our day that the first definition of science is OBSERVATION. So, for over 5,000 years, many very wise people, both healers and the healed have been observing the direct results of practicing the mudras,as well as the other forms of Auyurvedic, Taoist, etc. medicine. This is an overwhelming amount of direct observation, with lots of case histories to stimulate refinement and sophistication. If this isn’t the truest form of science, then I don’t know what is. Modern psuedo-science seems to be hung up on contrived, artificial, manipulated experiments, and statistical analysis. It has lost the soul of meaningful observation and concern for mankind. Thanks for helping us get back to reality.

  183. Hello Valli

Thank you so much for the wonderful advice. My question is…Is it OK for children to do mudras as well?

  187. Hi Valli,

I am suffering from Carpel Tunnel Syndrome for the last 2 years. Tried for Homeopathy, Allopathy and Ayurveda treatments, but not cured till date. When I tried for the Allopathic medicine, I felt the pain in my Right foot also, so I stopped the medicine. They suggested for an operation, but I am not interested.

I am a regular Yoga practitioner for the last 10 years. Is there any Mudra Pranayama for the Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. Kindly advice.

    With love, Lalitha

Divya Suresh, Prana Mudra and Prithvi Mudra are very beneficial for you.

    Sarah, thanks for your comment.

Mona, Prana Mudra and Apana Mudra are beneficial for diabetes, and Prithvi Mudra, Vayu Mudra and Surya Mudra are for losing weight.

May i also know if Aakash mudra helps in solving low B.P as well as im aware it helps for high B.P?
Does Vaayu mudra help for stomach upset(due to wrong food) as i see it helps in healing constipation and flatulence?
    Awaiting your reply

  208. Divyasuresh, Vayu Mudra helps you for stomach upset too and try Linga Mudra, Varuna Mudra and Rudra Mudra (touch the tips of index finger and ring finger together on top of the tip of thumb while the remaining two fingers stretched) for low blood pressure.

  209. Hi Valli,
-I’ve previously got an advice from you regarding wet palms, if you remember. Thank you very much for your time & concern. I’ll keep you updated of the result so it might help for your research.
-My son & my brother have kidney problems. I’m sure there are mudras for it. I wonder if there are different mudras for different kidney problems or just one mudra works for all kidney problems. Could you please take time to reply to this important issue for me? Thanks.

  210. Rose, generally Apana Mudra cures all types of kidney problems. But there are some other mudras too that are useful for kidney problems. I will explain them in my next article.

  211. what r the mudras i should practice for my ears. they shut close as if under presure.

  214. greetings…i have been practising the surya murda to lose weight at least for 1hr 30mins a day (with breaks in between) as i want to lose weight fast. Started 3 days ago. Somehow my body feels hot inside now after doing the murda.
Can you advise me if what i am doing is right?
    Thanks so much.

  215. my apologies….i meant mudra and not murda!!…sorry….

  216. Hello Valli,
Can you please suggest any mudras for Psoriasis ?
    Thank You.

  217. I want to know if I use mudra for memory, concentration, and intellegent brain in how many days will I see results.
And what mudra I should use for getting good memory, concentration, and intellegent brain

  218. Manju, Shunya Mudra and Akash Mudra help you.

Vidhya, Blow the air as if you are blowing balloons daily for 10 to 12 times. Try this ayurveda remedy: Indian ginseng 250g , cow or goat milk 250ml, gingelly oil 250ml: soak the Indian ginseng after cutting into pieces and make it pulp. Pour this in a container and add milk and oil and boil for some time until the water and milk evaporate in the oil. Store this in a glass jar. Massage this into cheeks every night before sleeping.

Rose, In Apana Mudra the tips of middle finger and ring finger touch the tip of thumb while the other two fingers are stretched out. I am planning to write about the other useful mudras too, but it will take some days.

Raj, it is not advisable to practice mudras according to your own as every mudra has specific time limit (for Surya Mudra it is 5 to 15 minutes). Careless practice causes harm to you.

Ram, Varun Mudra and Vayu Mudra are helpful for Psoriasis.

Shikha, Try Gyan Mudra and let me know the results.

  219. Thank you for your advice Valli.
What other mudras can i do besides surya mudra (15mins x 2 p/day) for obesity?
    Help….

  220. thanks. can you give me the tamil name for indian ginseng and instead of cow or goat milk aavin milk can be used and how to make pulp. how long we can store it. You tell me whether it can be stored outside or in fridge. help me.

  221. Hi Valli,

i have a very weak and hoarse voice .Please suggest a mudra for it.

  222. Hi Valli, I had a few queries…
is it advisable to keep the fingers in Gyan mudra as I lie down to sleep?
Is it ok to keep both hands in different mudras? Like Gyan mudra in RH and Prithvi mudra in LH?
Is there any order to doing mudras, for a more beneficial effect?
Something like, if u do XYZ mudra first, the following mudras would have a faster effect?
    Thanks valli..

  223. Hi Valli,

Totally how many mudras are there? Can we keep the mudra and sleep?

  224. Valli, desperately waiting for your reply.

I have been told many times that my metabolism rate is low and that explains why i lose weight very slowly despite exercising and eating reasonable portions…over the years my weight has caused me a problem.
Are there mudras to increase metabolism rate?
I have been doing surya mudra for 20 days now but have lost only 1kg….so sad….

  225. Raj, besides Surya Mudra try Linga Mudra, Viyan Mudra ,Prithvi Mudra and Vayu Mudra. Surya Namaskar (sun salutation exercise) is very beneficial for you. Also try Pavanamuktasana, Dhanurasana and Sarvangasana.

Vidhya, Amukkuram is the tamil name for Indian ginseng. Cut the fresh roots after cleaning and make the pulp in mixer. Cow milk (not the hybrid ones) or goat milk has medicinal values, so you should use it. Pour this pulp in a container and add milk and oil and boil for some time until the water and milk evaporate in the oil. Store this in a glass jar and keep outside. There is no need to keep this in a fridge as it is boiled.

Subodh, Vayu Mudra and Prithvi Mudra help you a lot.

Hari, You can keep your fingers in Gyan Mudra when you lie down to sleep. Don’t do different mudras at a time as you may not get benefit for that, but you may do one after the other.

Jayalakshmi, totally there are more than 100 mudras, but few are very useful and popular. You can sleep while doing mudra, but you may get the partial benefit for that.

  226. Hi,

I want to improve my vision. The sight numbers are different for both the eyes, & it is increasing year after year. I dont want to go for lasic surgery, which is suggested by many. The numbers are right eye – (-7.5) & left eye ( -4).

Will i be able to reduce the numbers through yoga postures.
    Please advise.

    Regards,
    Suchitra

  227. Thanks a lot Valli for your advice.

Can i do surya namaskar any time of the day?
    How long per session?
How many days in a week must i do it?

And Valli isn’t Prithvi Mudra to increase weight?…why have you included that in my mudras?…just asking cos i am sure you have a good explanation.

  228. Vali Ji

I have a stomach problem, I always feel that my stomach is upset it is always bothering me and gastric problem is also there. Can you suggest me some mudra for this

  235. valli, can the mudras be done while walking or done while being static?

    Mahesh

  236. Farida, Apana Vayu Mudra is very useful for all types of cardiac problems. Also check out this article: http://healthmad.com/alternative/color-therapy-green/

The following home remedies work for blocked arteries.
    1. Consume a glass orange juice by adding three cloves of minced garlic to it.
    2. Mixture of apple cider vinegar and garlic is also effective in treating the blocked arteries.
    3. Take some lemon peels and keep them in water for overnight. Consume the water next day for three to four times. This is very helpful in treating the blocked arteries.

  239. hi valli
I have been reading your articles for a week.they are excellent and very informative.i have had a miscarriage last month.doctors feel that it was due to my uterine fibroids…i want to know what mudras will help me to cure them and acquire a healthy reproductive system…please help me …i feel so lost..

  240. valli,

I am doing the mudras and looks like things are shaping up slowly, as I wanted. Should the mudras like gyan, prithvi, varuna, be done using both hands at the same time? Or can it done one hand at a time?

    Mahesh

    .

  241. Angel, sorry to hear your problem. Maha Sacral Mudra is very helpful for your problem. It is useful for uterus related problems as well as bladder related problems. Join the tips of two little fingers while the two ring fingers touch the tips of thumbs for 3 minutes and join the tips of two ring fingers while the two little fingers touch the tips of thumbs for 3 minutes. Practice this mudra for two to three times daily until to get relief from the problem.

Mahesh, you can do the same mudra (for ex: Gyan Mudra) with both the hands at a time, but avoid doing the different Mudras (for ex: Gyan Mudra with right hand and Prithvi Mudra with left hand or vice versa) at a time as you may not get benefit for that. You can do one after the other.

  242. Hi valli
Thank you so much for your answer…i felt so nice that someone actually read and answered my problem…i will do this mudra and get to you later…may god shower you with his blessings…

Massage the breast daily twice with one teaspoon of warm castor oil from the sternum toward the armpit. Add broccoli or cabbage, garlic and turmeric in your diet.

Vanitha, Surya Mudra and Mahasacral Mudra are beneficial for your problem. Check out the article for time duration and procedure. Trikonasana, Bhujangasana, Surya Namaskar and Pranayama are helpful for you.

    vanita

  249. I only have the following questions: can someone please reply?
    1) Do we do it one hand? If ‘yes’ which is it going to be? Left or Right?
    2) While practising any Mudra, do we have to keep the hand raised or may it dangle beside our body (as in natural posture)?

  250. Hi Valli,
I would like to know if there is anything I can do about my hands which have begun to cramp if I am doing something concentrated with them, eg writing, working using a screwdriver. I have a small amount of arthritis in my thumb joints. I have arthritis of the hips, two replacements, one 15 years ago and one 9 years ago. I am only 62 and otherwise fit and well possibly a little overweight, taking no medication but would like to be fit and agile as long as possible. Any advice would be most welcome, I am open to try anything which does not involve taking drugs. Teresa

  251. Thanks for this amazing article on Mudras. I am facing constipation problem and I tried Apana Mudra for 4-5 days for 45 minutes daily and now i am very much fine. I have a query I usually have constipation problems , so shall i keep practicing this mudra so that I don\’t face constipation again ? and I have menstrual problems from last few years. My period are irregular, painful and my menstrual cycle is of 18-20 days instead of 28 days. Means after every 18-20 days my periods starts with pain in my back, legs and in lower abdomen. My digestive system is very bad too and i am having hair fall problems also. I am practising surya mudra and apana mudra. Would you please let me know what other mudras shall i practise and is it ok to practise 3-4 mudras everyday until the problem is solved.
    Waiting for your reply.
    Thanks
    Nidhi

  252. Hi
My name is debarati and i got an amazing benefit from these mudras. I have question, if i want to reduce weight more faster, which mudra i should practice more?
    Thank u

  253. Mudras can be done with both hands or even with one hand. It is said thatthe mudras have effect on the opposite side. That means, if you are doing mudra for right ear, do it with left hand.

Many people are asking about the scientific proof and all that. Instead, they should practice it themselves and see the results.

I have tried it and found to be very effective. It could also be used for meditation.

3 day courses on Mudra Chikitsa and the science behind it are being conducted by oshodhara at Murthal, Haryana, 50 km north near Sonipat. They have published a beautiful book on Mudra Chikitsa. For details contact http://www.oshodhara.co.in

    Thanks
    -Diwakar

  254. Thanks for the info…

I’ve been getting into yoga more and more myself over the last year ever since my girlfriend got me attached to the idea, and ever since then I’ve been trying to immerse myself more and more into alternative healthy styles.

  255. Hi,
I need to regularly practice gyan, vayu, apana vayu, pran and prithvi mudras for the helath benefits that they will result in. The problem is that my fingers and hands start to hurt after five minutes or so. If I use my fingers and hands a lot during the day they get numb at night, so much so that my sleep gets disrupted.
    Thanks for your help.

  256. Hi,

I am having myopia with ( -3.5 on both eyes)
I do pran mudra daily for 15 minutes. Will I see improvement in my vision in a month or so by doing pran mudra for 15 minutes daily.

  257. Thanks a lot,,

Please do post many more tips like this.

Thanks once again for sharing these…..

  258. Ahmed, generally mudras can be done with right hand, but you can practice with left hand or both the hands too. Practice according to your convenience either straight or dangle but the procedure should be followed.

Teresa, Gyan Mudra, Vayu Mudra and Prithvi Mudra and asanas like Tree Pose (Vrikshasana), Bound Angle Pose (Baddha Konasana) and Triangle Pose (Trikonasana) are helpful for your problem. But practice them carefully.

Nidhi, practice the mudras until you get relief from the problem. Try one more mudra that is Mahasacral Mudra. It is good for all uterus related problems.

Debarati, Surya Mudra helps for your problem.

Diwakar and William, thanks for your feedback.

Aparna, don’t strain your fingers and hands too much. Keep them relax while doing mudras and take breaks every minute.

Sirish, certainly you will see the improvement in your vision by doing Prana Mudra. Also follow these natural remedies suggested in this article: http://healthmad.com/alternative/natural-remedies-for-eye-diseases/

Jayaseelan Vijayan, sure and thanks for your comment.

  259. Hi valli,

    Thanks for your reply.

Is 15 minutes daily enough for Pran Mudra to see improvement in the vision.

Also can you kindly let me know the ideal time for doing the pran mudra.

Also can we perform this mudra in sukhasana or is there any specific posture for doing this mudra.

  260. first off all thanks in this articles
i like this type of articles
i send the articles a lot of friends

  261. Sirish, early morning is the ideal time for doing mudras, or you can do them in the evening. No specific posture is required to perform. You should practice this mudra daily for 40 minutes to see the results.

    Rajitha, thanks for your comment.

  262. Hi Valli,

    Thanks for your reply.

Is it okay if I do Pran Mudra for 20 minutes in the morning and then the next 20 minutes in the evening.

How much time will it take to see the improvement in vision

  263. Yeah Sirish, you can do for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening. Depending on the severity, it takes 3 to 6 months to see the improvement in vision.

  264. Valli,
I am facing hair-loss problem. I loosing hair from the top of the head. The hair are becoming thinner day by day and are lost. In my opinion my diet is not too bad but I don’t understand the reason behind this.
Secondly I am having Myopia (-0.75); not so severe. But still can’t read something which is a bit far.
Thirdly and lastly, everyday I start my day with good amount of energy but after a while ( just before the afternoon) I start feeling drowsy and lose concentration. Moreover I get tired (mentally) by the end of the day eventhough I don’t do much, as I feel. I take enough sleep and keep a good diet.

  269. Hello

this article is absolutely amazing, I know you’ve answered a lot of questions, would you be willing to answer one more?

I have chronic inflammation in my knees, and in Western medicine, the only way to relieve it is to take some medicine that upsets the stomach.

Is there a mudra that can help with this?

    Thank you,

    Paul

  270. Hi there
