How to Conquer Depression
Depression can be very challenging to overcome. If you want to overcome it, you will need time, patience, and understanding. The first and most important step to overcoming anything is admitting that you are depressed and that you do have a problem. Don’t be ashamed of it. When you try to hide or conceal your depression, you actually deepen the wounds.
Depression can come from a number of things, and with a custom assessment of yourself you can pin point where it came and how it came. The second step is to watch what you are watching. Some shows on TV are just outright depressing. The last thing I need If I’m already depressed is to watch a show about someone being hurt in a relationship. Watch what music you play as well. You can walk in someone’s home and just the music alone makes you feel like you are going to a funeral. Watch who you hang around. Certain people bring negative energy to you. Change your surroundings from time to time. Listen to Audio books dealing in depression. Educated yourself on it. READ THE BIBLE. You may not understand the bible but, the words are medicine to your body.
If you don’t have time to devote to reading it for hours and hours listen to it. Many people experiencing depression don’t want to eat, clean, or even get out of bed. The best way to get over depression is to get out of your environment. Go on a vacation, go visit family, go get a hotel room in a different city for the weekend. Sometimes different environments can do wonders for your spirit. Talk about what is on your mind. So many times people don’t have anyone to talk to so they carry all this baggage around until its gets so heavy they refuse to go any further. People who are wounded don’t want to be wounded again. We have to heal so we don’t cut the same wounds over and over again. Time heals all wounds. When you open up and talk to people you are literally letting go of the weight that has been holding you down. I believe one of the best ways to combat depression is by finding someone to talk to. The bible tells us to cast our cares on God.
Depression is more about what’s inside of you than anything. What’s inside of you is causing you to not want to eat, sleep, or get out of bed. If a damaging relationship is causing you stress, take a breather. Fresh air can do wonders for you and I’m not talking about stepping outside your porch smelling the air. Stop telling yourself everyone is against you. Stop telling yourself you are sorry, Stop telling yourself no one cares. When we start to say negative things to ourselves look around at what you have. Sometimes our children’s smile alone or hugs can heal us. When you are down its good to have your children around to remind you what you do have. God said that it wasn’t about us first loving him, its because he first loved us. Some of us have been so turned off by relationships, that we are missing the deep relationship God has for us in the church. If you have known hate all your life, God is love and he definitely can help you heal even from depression
