Love
A journey to self-love.
You know how that when you grow, you make mistakes along the way? In your early youth, especially since not only are you dealing with being independent for the first time and all the anxieties that accompany that, but also your family, friends, career paths, lovers, etc. In other words, a lot! And this is somehow supposed to be the most attractive part of our lives? Who said that? Whoever said that obviously had a freakishly awesome childhood/adolescence growing up because let me tell ya, early twenties are fun, dangerous, scary, challenging, and difficult. Ok, so in your twenties, you make mistakes. Patterns that were created in your family suddenly start to play out, and then you have to painstakingly do the process of recognizing what you do like and changing what you don’t. It sounds so easy right? Wrong! Change is hard and be prepared for the setbacks, slip-ups, and imperfections. So here I compiled a list of things that make me feel really awesome. I hope this helps!
1) Buy a beautiful notebook for yourself, just for you and your thoughts. Make it a cool place to escape to. When your having a yucky day, escape to it and write down everything that’s going on!
2) Take yourself out on date once a week; just me myself and I time. I know, gasp…alone? But, it actually is good for you to develop a wonderful relationship with yourself too!
3) Do something that scares you everyday! It could be something small, like maybe getting a blueberry muffin instead of a bran one. Or maybe getting a hot chocolate instead of coffee. Or maybe, hey, going swimming in the ocean.
4) Sleep in! Hey, you deserve it and when you sleep better, you think better to do even more wonderful things with yourself.
5) Order takeout and have it delivered to your door and watch your favorite movie. Chinese and Thai are my personal favorites.
6) Drink a glass of wine and blast your favorite piece of music; trust me, it’s much more fun than it sounds.
7) Recognize yourself for small victories throughout the day; yes this does include laundry and dishes.
Make a list of all the things in life you truly wish to attract into your life. But be serious and clear about it! You want a job? Write down specifically what you want in a job. You want to make six figures a year? Write it down! Read “Ask and It is Given.” It sounds silly, but seriously, once I’m clear, that thing will show up in my life. Identify what you want and stop being afraid.
9) Feeling stuck? Take a class at a community college in a subject that interests you. Let’s say you always wanted to learn spanish, right? So take a class! Don’t worry about, “Oh great! I’ll be in class with a bunch of eighteen year olds!” Or, “Well, at this rate, I’ll be lucky if I can be fluent in Spanish by the time I’m sixty!” Who cares! The point is starting now and building on that.
10) Every morning when you wake up, find three things you can appreciate. Yeah, even if that means the bed your sleeping in, your health, your wonderful mom, cat, dog, whatever. Remember that jealousy, envy, judgement, and criticism only occurs to those who cannot do themselves. And it usually means your not seeing what you already have.
