Meditation

A good break down of meditation.

Meditation has existed for thousands of years. It is a key component in most eastern religions. It has existed in both eastern and western cultures. Meditation is a practice used by most spiritual people as a means to connect with their god. Others have used meditation as a way to calm themselves or to relax their muscles, before performing any strenuous exercises. What other reason or purpose meditation is used for it has been shown to have positive effects on that person’s body and mind.

The creator of meditation is not known. But some believe meditation to have originated in Asia. Tibetan monks have used meditation for thousands of years, and keep their meditation secrets closely guarded. The execution of meditation differs from different cultures or religions but they all have the same effects. It is often believed that one must completely clear their mind and not have a single thought. This is true for advanced levels of meditation but, for basic meditation one must let distractions come and go without focusing on a particular sound. One can also use a mantra to focus on to reduce distractions.

People meditate for various different reasons. Buddhist Monks meditate to achieve enlightenment and Nirvana. Nirvana is a state of mind in which the mind is free of mind-contaminants, such as anger or cravings.
