Morgellons Disease

A quick summary of the disease.

From a recently published study by the CDC, it seems as if the this rare disease is but a manifestation of a psychiatric disorder. These are the common symptoms:

  • The sensation of insects moving or biting beneath the skin
  • Lesions
  • Fibers poking out of or beneath the skin
  • Fatigue

The sample studied by the CDC were found to have an average amount of depression and obsessiveness above the average amount for the entire population. Many scientists consider the disease to be derived from paranoia, especially since there are no testable signs of fungus, bacteria, or illness, and Morgellons is oftened self-diagnosed through the internet.

What do you think? Is Morgellons all in the mind? Or have we improperly diagnosed?
