The typical work activities include a number of components like for example conducting a series of individual sessions with a client and encouraging them to talk about their problems and exploring their feelings and behavior. Running group sessions is also an alternative therapy that could be done in a clinical setting with other people or in training capacity for other professionals like social workers, nurses or teachers. Eminent psychiatrists like in any other profession keep ahead of developments in theory and research and also have to cooperate with people in the health professional community in order to maintain continuity of work and client base. One of psychiatrist main responsibilities is to evaluate therapy outcomes and to know how to write reports but in order to keep the work at a good pace they should maintain supervision on their patients on their own or together with another appropriately qualified person. Finally, these professionals should know how to balance between different cases they have over a period of time and to be adept of meeting service expectation and performance management targets.

People who provide psychotherapy could be psychiаtrist, sоcial wоrker, psychоlogist, mеntal heаlth nursе or оther professionals who have further trаining in psychotherаpy. Some of the people indulged into similar activities to those of the psychotherapists do nоt hаve backgrоunds in thеse fiеlds but hаve undеrtaken in dеpth trаining in this arеa.
