Ways to Handle Stress
These are some simple but effective ways to handle and harness stress in any situation.
You probably wonder how some people get through those difficult times in life where that
person just can’t seem to get a handle on things. They have no patience and everything is just
utter chaos. This sink is not working or my son is doing drugs, what do I do? Its simple…with
these guidelines, I can explain to you how to handle the most difficult situations. Also, I will
point out the mistakes people do that create stress in their lives.
What is stress?
Well, stress is the natural reaction in the body when a person is in a certain situation(s) and the
body does not know what to do. When a person is stressed, their blood pressure rises, their heart
rate increases, and some people even go into anxiety attacks. Well, we don’t want people going
into anxiety and panic attacks do we? No. So, knowing what stress is and what it can do to your
body is helpful for understanding how to control stress or eliminating stress all together.
The mistakes people make and how to avoid them
When people are in stressed situations like a car accident or late for work or situations where
they have limited time to make a decision, the biggest mistake is mistake #1:
Freaking out
I have no other plain way to say that the biggest mistake people make when they are in stressful
situations is freak out. This is the worst thing a person can do because of the chemicals that
release from your brain. According to a documented source, certain brain chemicals release into
your body causing again, increase in heart rate, higher blood pressure, etc. This is not healthy for
your body. The way to not let this happen is to first stop. Take a step back from the situation,
and look at it. Now, some people do this but they look at the situation with anger, jealousy, hate,
or whatever they are feeling and act upon those feelings at the time. Wrong thing to do. What
that person needs to do is to look at the situation with no emotion. I know that sounds
impossible but it is possible, I have done it many times. What this does is slow your heart rate
and lets the body take in more oxygen to the parts of the body to help it relax.
Acting on Impulse
In some situations, acting on impulse is a good thing, for example, if you are about to be robbed
or beaten up buy some gang members, you instantly go into a flight or fight response. But with
stress, acting on impulse is the worst thing to do. Like I said in the previous paragraph, acting
on those feelings only makes it just more stressful. When you take a second to think about what
just happened or what you are going to do, the body reacts naturally buy switching from thinking
about the stressful part of the situation and starts to think about the “dealing with” part of it.
Doubting yourself
Now this mistake is not really dealt with or really explained much, so I will help out with the
explanation. If a person comes to a conclusion for the stressful situation, sometimes what
happens is the person doubts themselves. This triggers the brain to start overanalyzing and
causes a relapse of stress causing even more stress than before. This is critical not to do because
it sometimes it can be very dangerous. So, once you come to a conclusion, think calmly and
thoughtfully through it before taking action. Once you do this, the situation will become normal
and you can solve it with ease.
The outcome
So, what have you learned from this? Well, knowing the warning signs of stress and how to
avoid them will help dramatically in a person’s life. Not only will that person be stress-free, but
the person will be happy, relieved, and will learn patience. That’s one of the biggest keys to
relieving with stress. Patience is so beneficial to your life, it can even save your life. Patience is
a virtue and it takes time to develop, but once you can use patience wisely, you will have few
problems in life. Using these tools I have explained, I hope you can go about your lives without
stress and learn to have patience with anything that goes on in your life or someone else’s life.
Doing so will not only improve your well-being but it will affect other people’s well-being too.
