Yoga as a Stress Management Exercise

Hatha Yoga for Stress Management.

When it comes to stress and stress management, we have to consider a lot of factors. Stress can be due to work and/or family. It could also be due to financial, emotional, physical, and mental aspects of our everyday lives. Stress is actually beneficial to us to some extent, but it may lead to our physical and mental breakdowns if left unchecked. There are various techniques and methods to help you deal with stress.

One of the techniques is yoga. Yoga is an ancient practice, which dates back its origin 5000 years ago. Yoga consists of series of postures and breathing exercises, which are sometimes referenced from mammals, fish, or reptiles. The ultimate goal of those who practice yoga are to reach complete tranquility of body and mind, keep the body relaxed and manage stress and anxiety. Full courses are available for those who have the time and are willing to undergo the full course, which also includes behavioral training, diet regimen, and exercises. Shorter courses are also available which can help in better management of stress.

Yoga has a lot of physical and mental benefits. Physical benefits are flexibility, muscle toning, muscle and joint pain prevention, and better breathing. Mental benefits include state of calmness, stress reduction, increased body awareness, and total well-being. Yoga and meditative practices helps you to achieve an emotional balance through detachment that is it puts you in a condition where you are not affected by what’s happening around you. Our focus creates a calm and positive outlook.

There are many styles and forms of yoga with varying intensities depending on the time that each individual can spare on this activity and as per his need. But for stress management Hatha yoga in particular is a good choice. This style of yoga helps us to maintain a calm mind along with improved flexibility. Hatha yoga also has several forms which you can take depending on your preference but all forms of Hatha yoga has two basic components which are posture and breathing.

Regardless of the type of yoga to undertake, it’s not necessary that you have to do every pose that your instructor demonstrates. If you feel that you are uncomfortable with a pose or you can’t hold it for as long as required, tell your instructor about it. What’s important is that you achieve relaxation in these exercises. If you are interested in undertaking yoga, do some research first so that you can pick out the ones which will benefit you greatly and which you can do comfortably.
