Acidosis, are You Acid or Alkaline?
Very few of us are aware that our bodies are similar to our backyard pools, in that their PH varies and should be maintained at a certain level to be in an ideal state. Left acidic, they will breed bacteria growth. Kept slightly alkaline, they will be safe for use, given proper filtering. Just an analogy…

We are told by a very small minority of physicians, mainly holistic practitioners, that our bodies should be maintained at a slightly alkaline PH level as much as possible. Some researchers in medicine tell us that a low PH, or acidic body(blood) composition exposes us to disease tendencies and should be avoided if at all possible. The question at this point is just how do we in our daily lives of eating at the “fast food” lunch stop choose the proper foods and beverage that will help us maintain this balance ? One very quick to make sure that our blood is fairly well maintaining an above average PH level is to drink what is called “Alkaline Water”, which can be purchased in some food specialty stores and also in some organic produce sections of a large super market. This water is alkaline because it contains high levels of the mineral Magnesium Bicarbonate and therefore maintains a high PH. Some commercial mineral water distributors claim a PH of higher than 9.0, which is considered extremely alkaline.
How Can We Best Maintain A Near Neutral PH ?
In today’s modern world, it is not very easy to keep our bodies from sliding into the acid PH levels. Many people are on some form of medication and this alone can lower the alkaline levels of our blood. Some people also take regular aspirins on a daily basis and this also helps to lower our PH to become slightly more acidic. What we eat and drink on average can help shift our body from alkaline to acid if we eat the wrong foods on a continual basis. For instance, if we have soft drinks on a daily basis and especially of the cola type, because they have a PH of 2.5, which is considered highly acidic, we can be assured that our body chemistry will soon shift in the below nominal PH range of 7.0. Or, if we add any artificial sweeteners to beverages, because their PH is very acidic, it will obviously lower our PH into the acid range. On the other hand, we can drink lemon aid on a regular basis instead of the cola and be pretty well assured that our PH will be slightly alkaline.
What About The Foods We Eat ?
If we wish to be fairly well assured that the chemistry of our body remains slightly alkaline, then we should try to eat the foods which will pretty well assure us that we will remain alkaline. These foods, or food combinations should contain vegetables, such as broccoli, asparagus, garlic, cauliflower, onion, sweet potato, seasoned with sea salt and possibly pineapple as a dessert.
All of this, we are told by many experts in medicine, mainly in the homeopathic field, that we can probably prevent the onset of many diseases.

Food combining is becoming more popular as we stray away from sensible eating habits.

Thanks for your comments. It is difficult to monitor one’s Ph and its also difficult to maintain, but, like you say, diversity is a good guide.
