What is Green tea?
Many of us debate over the consumption of coffee and tea as daily refreshment. Most people think drinking tea or coffee regularly affects our health severely and some argue the other way. I don’t know much about the health benefits or risks of coffee consumption, but I certainly know tea keeps us healthy. Green tea has gain popularity in recent time because of its valuable properties to cure many diseases. Scientist from various parts of the globe has come with evidences that support positive effects of green tea.

Green tea is a good beverage that can treat diseases like cancer, heart problems, arthritis and keeps cholesterol levels under control. This is because of the antioxidant known as epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG) present in the green tea that can cure many diseases.
Camellia sinensis if the scientific name of green tea and comes from the same plant which produces normal tea varieties. The difference lies in the processing of the tea leaves. The normal tea is produced by drying, fermenting and desiccating the leaves and powdering in machines, which leave the tea leaves to ferment and increase the caffeine and tannin levels. Green tea is produced without fermentation and thus leaves a green colour when we prepare green tea.

Health benefits of Green tea
Caffeine, catechin and theonine are the antioxidants present in green tea, which are responsible for preventing many diseases and treating existing disorders. The astonishing health benefits of green tea are summarised below:
Refreshing: No other drink can give such a refreshment, believe me. Tea has a stimulating effect on our body. Caffeine and tannin are very good stimulants and too much of their intake may be harmful. Drinking green tea (or tea) energizes our body by improving the blood circulation and can be effective treatment for laziness, sleepiness, fatigue and lethargy.

Fights Ageing: The anti oxidants present in tea neutralize the free radicles, which are responsible for ageing. Green tea has a great anti-ageing property and its regular consumption will leave us younger.
Fights Infections: Drinking green tea boosts immunity and prevents various viral and bacterial infections. Compounds present in green tea fights effectively the toxins released by the infective organisms and agents. It also prevents falling of teeth by strengthening the gums.

Fights Cancer: Anti cancer property of green tea has been testes time and again and proved by scientists all over the world. Green tea consumption prevents formation of carcinogens and reduces the chances of colon, rectum, pancreatic and intestinal cancer.
Fights Cholesterol: green tea reduces the cholesterol level to a great extent and therefore prevents heart related problems like arthrosclerosis, thrombosis and strokes. Green tea also increases the stamina and endurance in love making.

Fights diabetics and overweight: Green tea is an excellent remedy for diabetes if not consumed with sugar. It increases the functionality of pancreas and insulin an therefore reduces the blood sugar level (maintains). Green tea is recommended not only for the diabetic individuals but also for those who have the problem of overweight. Green tea increases the metabolism and helps in reducing extra weight.

Tea makes me happy! All kinds, black, green, white and herbal. I think if we would take a moment to realize how different foods/beverages actually make us feel, we would realize that sugar-laden sodas and over-sugared coffee flavored beverages have a lot to be desired. Tea just makes you feel good. And it doesn’t need the sugar. Tea gives you energy while also creating a feeling of calm.

Rooibos | Jan 22, 2011 | Reply
Rooibos / African red bush tea has distinct advantages over green and other teas: it’s believed to be the only tea product containing no caffeine – compared to 3% in green tea – and its tannin content is as low as 10% of normal tea. Research by the Healthy and Natural Journal suggests that Rooibos’ antioxidant qualities are up to 50 times more potent than Green Tea. Its anti-allergic qualities were awarded a prize from the World Intellectual Property Organization.
