Apples Could Delay the Aging Process

An apple a day really does keep the doctor away. This fruit is packed with healthy, natural preventatives and could even delay the aging process.

Apples really are good for you and there is a lot of truth in the old saying that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”.

This fruit is high in antioxidants which prevent cell and tissue damage caused by free radicals within the body. Basically, they help to alleviate damage done to cells which do not receive their required amount of oxygen.

The flavanoids in apples are defensive phytochemicals which may slow down the aging process of the body and reduce the chance of urinary tract infections, osteoporosis and stroke.

Apples are the richest source of fruit pectin and this is an anti oxidant against cholesterol in the blood stream. This can reduce the chance of cancer of the colon, act as an anti diarrhoea agent, reduce high blood pressure and help to prevent gallstones.

Recent research shows that apple pectin, taken regularly can lessen the severity of diabetes. This isn’t an alternative to insulin (as yet), so don’t be tempted to try it on it’s own if you are diabetic. Take medical advice first.

Apples also contain quartering which can help to reduce cancers, prevent heart attack, control asthma and reduce attacks of gout and speed up gastro-intestinal healing.

So, it’s true. An apple a day can work wonders. I think it’s certainly worth adding one to your diet. The benefits could be huge, for such a small effort!

  3. This was good to read, eating healthily is the primary factor to keeping well. It does not prevent ill health but looking after yourself will aid the healing process.
